Managing Director, Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation

As the Managing Director, Social Entrepreneurship & Innovation (MD, SEI), you will lead a unique team that challenges Teach For America alumni and corps members to solve persistent problems standing in the way of an excellent education for every child through innovation and entrepreneurship. You will design and convene learning experiences, foster partnerships and surface and curate opportunities and resources that serve to inspire alumni and corps members to design solutions to the challenges facing students from low income communities across the country and to foster a robust and diverse community of alumni and corps member innovators. The MD will be instrumental in building, scaling, and expanding programs to support game-changing entrepreneurial solutions to ensure that every child receives a high quality education and can thrive beyond the classroom as well

You are an exceptional project planner and executor.  You are excited about adult learning and have experience leading professional learning for adults. You are passionate about supporting adults who are interested in innovation and solving problems through entrepreneurship and likely have some experience in innovation yourself. You’re a constant learner and operate with flexibility and a sense of possibility through challenges. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead development of Social Entrepreneurship Strategy
    • Designs and oversees strategic planning process for sub-team, in collaboration and alignment with Engagement and CLE leadership teams
    • Sets vision for SEI work in partnership with VP, Alumni Leadership Pathways
    • Builds and manages the budget
    • Ensures an annual report of the outcomes of SEI work is completed, therefore ensuring that data and information are being captured through the year
    • Serves in the MD Leadership Team of the Engagement Team
    • Develops new program initiatives; refine existing initiatives, and track metrics to make critical decisions about the future of SEI programming
  •  Serve as the internal and external leader of Teach For America’s Social Entrepreneurship Work
    • Leads and/or contributes to efforts to raise funds to support SEI work, stewarding donor relationships
    • Continuously builds expertise, knowledge and understanding of topics in the education, entrepreneurship and innovation field
    • Serves as an advocate of Social Entrepreneurship & Innovation in and out of the organization
    • Accelerates and amplifies the visibility of Teach for America social entrepreneurs; works with internal and external marketing and public relations efforts to communicate and shares the solutions coming out of TFA corps members and alumni
    • Manages key stakeholder relationships including alumni entrepreneurs and both internal and external constituents
  •  Design, Manage and Execute flagship leadership development programs for Teach For America alumni in entrepreneurship
    • Manages our flagship programs (Social Innovation Award & Entrepreneurs United Conference) fully from annual vision setting to curriculum design, budget monitoring and program execution
    • Continually refining program design, curriculum design or implementation, choice of content providers and quality of program delivery by assessing and monitoring program quality in order to meet the needs of all adult learners and achieve programmatic success. 
  •  Develop other alumni facing virtual programming & resources through design, curation, execution and/or facilitation
    • Sources and curates professional development resources for alumni working social innovation
    • Designs, implements and facilitates new virtual or live leadership development for TFA alumni in entrepreneurship
  •  Maintain and develop relationships with organizations in the field to surface opportunities and resources for TFA alumni
  • Consult with and support Teach For America’s regional teams to design and implement leadership development for their entrepreneurs
    • Builds relationships with regional team members to better understand regional context and best support them in designing and delivering leadership development for their alumni
    • Sources, designs and reviews content for regionally driven leadership development programming
    • Designs and facilitates learning and development content to build regional teams context and content knowledge on social entrepreneurship
Skills/Experience: 
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in and/or deep interest in social innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Teach For America staff experience preferred

 Work Demands

  • Must be able to travel up to 12 times per year in the U.S., including some weekends

  • Exceptional ability to build and execute complex project plans within high-stakes deadlines
  • Ability to identify learning needs for adults, to translate that into objectives and learning experiences and design strong content
  • Ability to build strong relationships with adults to enable learning and collaboration
  • Proficient in data analysis and program evaluation
