The GIS/Data Analyst will apply skills in data management, geoprocessing, webmap application development, and data visualization to support regional, national, and hemispheric bird conservation initiatives. This position has a particular focus on data visualization using tools such as ESRI webmapping applications and storymaps, and Tableau dashboards. This position will support Audubon Science Division’s conservation science group by curating spatial and non-spatial datasets, generating data visualizations such as static and interactive maps, charts, and dashboards, and conducting spatial analysis. The work will involve close collaboration within the conservation science and enterprise GIS groups as well as internal and external Audubon partners. We are looking for an energetic team member with the capacity to listen to collaborators, generate ideas, and deliver products efficiently.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assist with biological and conservation data management, including build and/or manage databases in Microsoft SQL (ArcGIS file geodatabases).
  • Map making and cartographic design in ArcGIS and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Building webmapping applications, storymaps, and dashboards in ArcGIS Online.
  • Visualize conservation datasets (geospatial and other) in Tableau.
  • Support conservation science staff with dataset management, preparation of presentations, and maps and infographics for reports and/or scientific publications.
  • Perform spatial analyses using ArcGIS Desktop/Pro.
  • Develop and apply systems for generating automated reports for measuring the impact of on-the-ground conservation work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in GIS, data science, environmental studies, biology or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience working with data visualization tools such as Tableau, and Esri storymaps, webmapping applications, and dashboards.
  • At least one (1) year of GIS coursework or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated cartographic (map design) experience.
  • Experience with Postgres or Microsoft SQL databases.
  • Skilled in the use of ArcGIS Desktop/Pro including analysis with both vector and raster datasets.
  • Demonstrated experience running spatial analysis (geoprocessing) tools in ArcGIS desktop.
  • Familiarity with one or more scripting languages such as Java, Python, R, JSON, and HTML a plus.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Effective communicator, both orally and written.
  • Detail oriented, yet efficient at meeting deadlines.
  • A self-starter with a growth mindset who can work independently and collaborate well with team members across a decentralized organization.
  • A creative, entrepreneurial spirit and an interest in keeping current with emerging tools and technologies.
  • Willingness to participate in all levels of project work when necessary and continuously serve as a team player.
  • Interest in working to promote bird conservation across the US and Americas, and passion for the mission of the National Audubon Society, a must.
