Director, Field Marketing and Communications

The Director of Field Marketing and Communications for the Recruitment and Admissions Team (RTAT) will serve as the expert on field-based marketing and communications strategies that effectively drive the prospective corps member journey towards becoming a part of our talented and diverse network of 56,000+ working across sectors to end educational inequity in our nation. You will work in close partnership with the recruiters at our most selective colleges and universities (Tier 1), as well as Performance Analytics, National MarComms, and Insights teams to deeply understand the needs and interests of the recruitment audience. You will collaboratively lead and support the execution of a cross-channel, tier-wide recruitment marketing and engagement strategy that meets the needs of the Tier 1 audience, is aligned to our foundations and brand standards, as well as drives tier-specific recruitment outcomes. You will also play a key role in setting vision and direction for and implementing the broader RT-wide marketing and events scope and sequence throughout the year. The ideal candidate has a background in marketing strategy and learning & development (L&D), exceptional project planning skills, an ability to manage multiple work streams with strong detail orientation, and the ability to laterally manage others to strong results.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Audience Strategy:

  • Leverage audience insights and the prospective corps member journey to define a brand experience across Tier 1 that increases prospect engagement, brand awareness, and desirability.
  • Proactively identify brand and marketing-related opportunities for growth that can be tested in market to inform broader strategy optimization.
  • Own and support the tier-wide recruitment influencer marketing strategy to be driven across campus-specific communication channels.
  • Partner with the national events team and PA consultant to define an effective RT-wide strategy for leveraging events throughout the prospect journey.
  • Partner with the Base Mobilization and national event teams to develop and implement a high profile event strategy that increases ROI of budget and VIP time investment at select Tier 1 campuses.

L&D and Coaching:

  • Lead tier-specific coaching and training to achieve deep internalization and consistent execution across our org-wide foundations, prospect beliefs, and brand standards.
  • Partner with Director of Connect and field VPs to define a brand-aligned strategy for incorporating the lead message into the connect work stream, bringing our prospect beliefs to life effectively through OC, and integrating general email marketing best practices as applicable (i.e. strong subject lines) within these work streams.
  • Partner on-going with Tier 1 Director of Connect, Tier 1 PA consultant on connect and OC strategy trends and alignment on recommendations for optimizing execution to strengthen brand health.
  • Support the development and facilitation of all RT messaging L&D in partnership with brand, connect, and cultivation strand leads in addition to L&D team.
  • Work directly with Tier 1 team leads (VP and MDs) in setting the vision and strategy for campus marketing and events to include consulting on portfolio-specific strategic planning.
  • Conduct regular prospect journey audits to assess cross-tier trends regarding integrity of recruitment execution against foundations, core messages, and potential impact on brand health (connect, cultivation, OC, marketing, and events).
  • Conduct a minimum of one campus visit per quarter to build field recruitment brand context and provide real-time coaching and training to field team members and campus interns.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional work experience (e.g., communications, journalism, digital marketing, marketing strategy, recruitment strategy)
  • Teach For America MarComm and/or Recruitment staff experience preferred
  • Recruitment Tier 1 market experience preferred

Work Demands

  • Some evening and weekend work required
  • Ability to travel to in-person meetings and campus visits in various U.S. cities approximately once per quarter
