Director, Development Learning & Design

We are seeking a Director of Development Learning and Design who will manage the design of the professional development of our development staff members. The Development Learning team works to equip development staff members to reach our ambitious goals by researching and identifying regional staff training needs and by designing, developing, delivering and evaluating the learning experiences and tools to address those needs. The Director will collaborate with regional and national staff in the design of learning experiences (onboarding support, webinars, in-person training, and supporting toolkits). The ideal candidate has training and resource design experience, a passion for and experience in the art and science of fundraising, a strong customer service ethic, excellent cross-team collaboration skill, is highly organized, able to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and has a passion for continuous learning and improvement. The Director of Development Learning and Design reports to the Managing Director of Development Knowledge and Learning. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Play a leading role in ongoing learning needs assessment for the organization's ~300 fundraisers.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of a learning scope & sequence for fundraisers at Teach For America.
  • Determine the most effective delivery mechanisms for training critical skills by role and design innovative learning events and resources in support of a world-class learning and development function including:
    • Onboarding resources and experiences
    • Peer learning engagements
    • In-person, instructor led learning events
    • Recorded and real-time e-learning
    • Digital tool kits
    • External partnerships
  • Identify the measures that will be used to determine the success of learning efforts, set realistic yet ambitious goals and continuously monitor progress to improve learning work and drive outcomes.
  • Manage the operations for all in-person and virtual learning experiences.
  • Partner with teams across the organization that share our learning priorities to support initiatives such as executive director onboarding, regional cohort learning, etc.
  • Collaborate with other Knowledge & Learning team members to ensure a cohesive learning and development strategy for fundraisers.
  • Create and curate content for weekly development staff communication with a focus on supporting priority learning objectives.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Experience in training design and learning resource creation required, fundraising-specific L&D experience a plus
  • Experience with virtual training platforms (e.g. Articulate, Cornerstone, WebEx) and/or knowledge management systems (internal wikis) a plus

 Work Demands

  • Ability to travel 1-2 times per quarter
