Leading digital work on climate change in the Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia region.
The Digital Communications campaigner will work with the regional 350.org team to form the campaign narrative and strategy. They will write blog posts, emails, and social media updates related to the campaign plan and major climate-related stories.
They will identify, develop, and implement digital campaigns across multiple platforms, collaborating with other 350 staff and partners on online-to-offline organizing and mobilization strategy.
- Help the regional team in forming the campaign narrative and strategy
- Identify, develop, and implement multi-platform digital campaigns and collaborate with other 350.org staff and partners on online-to-offline organizing and mobilization strategy
- Prepare the content on grassroots activism according to existing campaign plans and major climate-related issues for 350.org websites, social media channels and other media resources including traditional media
Digital communications
- Develop, implement and monitor digital strategy to support regional and national 350.org EECCA campaigns
- Creates and publishes digital content (blog posts, social media posts/tweets, shareable images, graphics ) on regional/national social media channels
- Manages and monitors regional/national social media channels
- Writes e-mail blasts to regional/national audiences
- Сoordinates and manages regional digital strategy for global, distributed campaigns, “Lift off” and new digital platforms.
- Monitors national petitions created and managed by users on Campaigns platform, ActionKit and supports them
- Responsible for training team members on Digital Empowerment
- Manages regional websites (350’s regional/language, campaign-focused websites)
- Manages regional/national supporters database, run reports, identify key people
- In conjunction with Translations Team, overviews translated digital materials (email blasts, social media content, infographics etc)
- Monitors and researches partners’ and allies’ digital campaigns. Forms partnerships to campaign on regional and national levels
- Plans and lead on regional/national rapid-response online campaigns around a variety of targets
- Develop digital tools to increase capacity of regional partners, volunteers and activists.
Distribution of information for traditional media
- Help to disseminate materials for traditional local and global media, including press-releases and speaking points, in cooperation with relevant 350.org staff
- Help to organize media events like press-conferences and street-actions
Correspondence
- Monitor the 350.org team inbox, requesting additional help as needed in order to respond to organization inquiries in a timely and effective manner.
- Forward messages to the proper staff members.
- Bottomline 350.org voicemail, answering inquiries in a timely and effective manner.
- Participating in 350.org events and activities linked to the duties performed according to the Job Description
Public Engagement:
- Understand 350.org's history, campaigns, theory of social change, and keep current with basic climate science and policy.
- From time to time, use this knowledge to represent 350.org's perspective in varied public venues based on geographic location and areas of expertise.
- From time to time, contribute work towards 350.org's overall mission that is outside of standard responsibilities and instead relies solely on geographic location or work capacity.
- Knowledge of, experience and dedication to the climate movement or solving other social problems is a must. Commitment to building grassroots power as a means to effect change.
- 3+ years of successful experience in digital communications and in maintaining social media platforms for a non-profit campaign, preferably on topics related to climate change.
- Basic knowledge of visual design tools (Photoshop etc)
- Strategic thinking and understanding of nonprofit and advocacy communications.
- Excellent writing skills, ability and willingness to produce content in a variety of formats, including for social media, and for different audiences with short turnaround times.
- Proficiency in Russian and English (proven ability to write and talk freely in both languages)
- Based in the Eastern Europe, Caucasus or Central Asia for a next 3-4 years
Desired skills:
- Basic front-end web development skills (HTML, CSS) and a good design eye, and experience using graphic design programs
- Experience using some (or all) of the online platforms employed by the digital team, including but not limited to Action Kit, Action Network, WordPress, and Control Shift Labs
- Well established contacts with journalists and knowledge of media landscape in the region, including key publications and outlets for environmental and climate change related news, especially in Russia is a plus
- Proficiency in maintaining spreadsheets and databases, email communication, comfort working remotely with colleagues in multiple time-zones via skype, conference calls, etc. A computer and strong Internet connection
- Ability to solve problems creatively and regularly generate news hooks and campaign ideas, work both independently and in teams, to be highly responsive and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others.
- Knowledge of other regional languages
- Understanding of local realities of different countries in the region
- Examples of state-of-the-art materials and digital communications on climate change or related topics
