Context: The Campaign Organizer works within the Illinois team to build support for clean energy and climate action in key state legislative districts.
Scope & Limitations: This is an apprentice position in the environmental field for an individual who within the last 12 months (from appointment date) has graduated from a four year degree (BA, B.S.) or a graduate level program. The incumbent may only hold this apprenticeship for up to 6 months.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Recruits, and coordinates Sierra Club members and other allies and supporters to engage in advocacy for the Clean Energy Jobs Act.
- Educate the public about the Clean Energy Jobs Act and the urgency of strong clean energy and climate action policies in the State of Illinois.
- Engage in one on one contact with members of the public at the door, at public events, and on the phone.
- Work with local Sierra Club members and volunteer leaders to engage them in this work, and support their development as leaders as appropriate.
- Where applicable, coordinate with Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition partners in this work.
- At the conclusion of the campaign, finish the project by compiling and delivering lists and other work products to Chapter leaders.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
A four year degree or a graduate degree in Environmental Science, Political Science or a related field within the last 12 months is preferred
Skills/Experience:
- Must be willing to knock on doors, make phone calls, and otherwise engage in public contact
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work well with diverse group, staff, volunteers and the public.
- Research and analytical skills.
- Proficient computer skills: word processing, spreadsheet, Internet.
