350.org is looking for an Accounts Payable Manager, to join the Operations department, responsible for supporting 350.Org 501(c)3 and 350 Action 501(c)4 accounting and reporting functions. Areas of responsibility include US GAAP accounting, financial compliance and reporting; as well as supporting global consolidation (whenever applicable), internal controls, internal review and external audits. This position will line manage the Accounts Payable staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Accounting Functions and Financial Systems

  • Responsible for the day to day accounting transactions, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with US GAAP standards, internal policies and procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Responsible for daily processing and posting of Accounts Payable transactions;
  • Coordinate/support Accounts Payable recording to the monthly financials
  • Provide support to the annual audit process preparing assigned detailed audit schedules, including notes and documentation. Process any relevant approved audit adjustments.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining accounting manuals-SOPs, policies and procedures and other working documents as needed;
  • Manage Accounts Payable function and Accounts Payable staff;
  • Assist in ensuring accounting system integrity and make recommendations to DOF for ongoing improvements in functionality as required.
  • Develop and provide training to global staff regarding A/P process and systems

Cash Flow Management and Controls

  • Maintain internal controls and safeguards for expenses and payments to staff and vendors;
  • Manage the timely payment of vendor invoices to ensure timely and accurate payments.
  • Manage EFTs, PayPal, check and domestic and international wire transactions/payments
  • Identify and confirm appropriate monetary currencies to ensure accurate payment and accurate recording to the general ledger.
  • Assist in development of documentation of procedures and recommendations for process improvements;
  • Assist when called upon to interface with outside audit firms, banks, business insurance agents, credit card companies, etc. on organizations behalf in consultation with Finance team and DOF;
  • Assist Director of Finance in organizational cash flow forecasting as needed;

Financial Reporting

  • Support the DOF around issues and trends in Accounts Payable and relevant accounting
  • Support the DOF in generating and analyzing financial reports for COO and Leadership team

Other

  • Support the finance teams and operations department when called upon
  • Participate in Finance and Operations meetings and initiatives
  • Participate or support organizational initiatives or events
  • Take initiative to learn about climate change
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related business degree;
Skills/Experience: 
  • Excellent knowledgeable in US GAAP,
  • 6-8 years of accounting experience, demonstrating a clear increase in responsibilities;
  • Experience in an international nonprofit organization
  • Experience with International transactions and accounting
  • Strong experience and working knowledge of general ledger, accounts payable, domestic and international disbursements and banking required;
  • Keen analytic, organization and independent problem-solving skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to management;
  • Ability to translate financial concepts to individuals at all levels in the organization – including non-finance colleagues;
  • Meticulous attention to detail – demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, organized, monitors own work to ensure quality;
  • Customer-oriented, positive attitude; and Commitment to a work environment that incorporates cultural values: mission-driven, professional, direct, naturally collaborative, and collegial.
  • Proactive, hands-on thinker who is comfortable working in partnership with senior staff within the organization;
  • Excellent written and communication skills, proficiency of English language (spoken and written) is required;
  • A deep understanding of and commitment to diversity, racial equity and inclusion

  • Strong management skill

Preferred but not required

  • Some understanding of IFRS is a plus;
  • Experience with Intacct or similar accounting systems
  • Experience with FC Stone INTL payment system
