Accelerate Fellowship Operations Director

The Accelerate Fellowship’s Operations Director will play a critical role in supporting up 30-35  undergraduate Accelerate Fellows, two Program Directors, and a Learning Director over the course of a seven week fellowship during the summer of 2019. He or she will plan and execute all systems over the course of the summer to support Accelerate Fellows, Program Directors, Learning Director, Teach for America staff members, and partner organizations. The Operations Director ensures that the Fellowship runs smoothly so that Accelerate Fellows can focus on delivering innovative solutions and on their own development. He or she is driven by the desire to create efficient systems that enable others to succeed.

The Accelerate Operations Director must be available to travel regularly and work evenings and weekends from June 16 through August 4, as the fellowship will take place in Chicago and the Rio Grande Valley. The Accelerate Operations Director must also be able to participate in virtual and independent training and prep work during the spring and early summer.

Teach for America’s Accelerate Fellowship is a unique seven-week (June 16 - August 4, 2019) paid fellowship experience for rising seniors (current juniors) interested in jump-starting a career in social impact. Fellows join in the fight against educational inequity alongside TFA corps members and alumni by tackling community work that intersects with education. Accelerate exposes Fellows to two TFA partner communities, where they will have the opportunity to build relationships with other college change makers, grow professionally, and contribute to work needed immediately alongside leaders in the social and private sectors.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Support the Accelerate Program Directors by designing, developing and managing systems (such as food, transportation, data collection), protocols, and procedures to maximize Fellows’ efficiency during the day. (30%)
  • Create, manage, and train staff members and Accelerate Fellows on program-wide duties and systems. (10%)
  • Manage the Fellowship resources to maximize operational efficiency and Fellows’ development. (20%)
  • Gather, reflect on, and analyze data to achieve Fellowship goals. (10%)
  • Actively build culture by creating project plans to implement events and activities that align to the Accelerate’s vision for culture. (10%).
  • Collaborate with Teach For America staff and Accelerate Program Directors to create systems to ensure that Fellows’ needs are met. (10%)
  • Work with Fellows and staff to problem-solve immediate logistical challenges. (10%)
  • Consistent national travel throughout the course of the seven-week fellowship is required.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree or current graduate students preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Teach For America corps member experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience on Teach For America recruitment, regional, or institute staff is preferred.
  • Experience with school-based operations or operations is preferred.
  • Prior experience interviewing candidates in Teach For America’s admissions process preferred.

 Work Demands

  • Ability to travel nationally over the course of the seven week fellowship during the months of June - August 2019.
  • Ability to participate in virtual and independent training and prep work during April and May 2019.
  • Regular evening and weekend work may be required during June - August 2019.
