Camping, like many Y programs, is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. But few environments are as special as camp. Camp Pinewood utilizes the amazing outdoors in western Michigan to provide YMCA programming that builds healthy mind, body and spirit for all.

As the Program Director, Group Services, you ensure that our group programs are an amazing experience for every participant whether its a school group, conference, retreat or outdoor education program.Learn more about Camp Pinewood group programs athttps://www.ymcachicago.org/pinewood/pages/group-retreats/#group.

You will be responsible for leading all of group service programming including team leadership, program instruction, group hosting and marketing, while ensuring the safety and welfare of all camp guests. You are a role model that inspires others to achieve the mission of the YMCA.

This role requires you to live onsite at Camp Pinewood and work a flexible schedule which may include days/evenings/weekdays/weekends to facilitate group programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Identify, select, develop and support an outstanding team who is as passionate about the Y and Camp Pinewood as you are
  • Ensure programs are high quality and that safety standards are consistently adhered to for all participants, guests and staff.
  • Plan and implement daytime and evening recreation programs and serve as an instructor forarchery, environmental education classes and other program areas
  • Facilitate team adventure activities including high ropes, climbing tower and low ropes courses
  • Assist with marketing of all camp programs including preparation and dissemination of camp literature as well as communicating in person and on the phone to potential guests
  • Wear multiple hats at times to support camp activities including programming, maintenance, kitchen, and other activities
Educational Background: 
Minimum of 2 years of college course work in the fields of parks and recreation, education, science, sociology, or other related fields
Skills/Experience: 
  • Passion for and commitment to the YMCA's mission and values
  • Previous camp supervision experience (YMCA experience preferred)
  • Training and experience with challenge and ropes course programs; physical agility required.
  • Ability to lead and direct guests of all ages
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications (within the past year) or ability to be certified; Lifeguard certification a plus
  • Customer orientation with prior customer service experience preferred.
