Support Childcare leadership in providing leadership and supervision of a childcare program. Assume full leadership of childcare program in Childcare Director’s absence. Ensure implementation of YMCA curriculum while providing care, guidance and developmental experiences in accordance with YMCA guidelines and state licensing requirements. Supervise children, and may supervise staff, in a safe environment as required by the Childcare Director and site needs. Supervise/teach up to 28 school-age children (ages 5-12) in before and/or after school programs with the assistance of other staff per Title 22 requirements.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Provide supervision and set and maintain limits for school-age children using positive reinforcement.
- Assist with training and evaluation of staff.
- Treat children, parents, and staff with dignity and respect.
- Maintain a clean environment; be responsible for maintenance of equipment & supplies.
- Maintain good public relations with parents and communicate with the Childcare Director.
- Assist with Parent Advisory Council meetings and maintain positive relationships with school representatives.
- Ensure the health and safety of all children, including following reporting and release procedures of children.
- Demonstrate and teach the character development values of respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, trustworthiness and citizenship.
- Follow & enforce safety regulations & other YMCA, school, and Licensing Title 22 policies and procedures.
- Oversee program operations when Childcare Director is absent.
- Assist with YMCA Member Involvement program and annual YMCA Campaign.
- Carries out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner
Educational Background:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Skills/Experience:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must be able to speak/read/write in Traditional Mandarin.
- 12 college units with 6 units in Child Development, Education or related field & 6 units in Psychology, Sociology, Recreation, Physical Education, Art, Music, or related field.
- Pediatric (EMSA) First Aid and Pediatric (EMSA) CPR certifications must be completed within 90 days of hire.
- At least 1 year experience working with children in a group environment.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer and results orientation.
- Ability to interact effectively at all ages, levels and across diverse cultures.
- Ability to be an effective member of project teams.
PREFFERED SKILLS:
- 2 years of Teaching experience.
