Manager, Alumni Leadership

The Manager, Alumni Leadership will support corps members and alumni. Aligned to Greater Tulsa’s regional vision, most work in this role will focus on cultivating a thriving Teach For America community (corps, alumni, and staff). Further, the Manager, Alumni Leadership will build a diverse and influential force of alumni working for educational equity and excellence in our community. This position offers a unique opportunity to build and leverage networks and relationships in Greater Tulsa while promoting opportunities to positively impact our schools and students. In this role, the Manager will hone strategic thinking, communication and design skills to effectively coach adults and inspire their commitment to our movement. The Manager, Alumni Leadership will report to the Director, Alumni Leadership.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Lead Alumni operations (25%) 

  • Design and execute logistical support for all alumni events (alumni survey, alumni board events, alumni induction, etc.)
  • Design and execute alumni communications
  • Maintain accurate records of alumni data
  • Support the scheduling of CM and alumni career conversations 
  • Support alumni through certification reciprocity and verification of Teach For America completion throughout their career

Cultivate and support rising alumni (35%) 

  • Partner with Teacher Leadership Development team to track data related to second year corps retention, share data with community partners, and collaborate to retain rising alumni
  • Coach second year corps members to identify their strengths and career goals, and connect them with opportunities in Tulsa by hosting one-on-one second year meetings and group learning experiences
  • Connect alumni to prospective employers, internships, and create opportunities to inspire CMs and alumni to develop and grow in the Tulsa community  
    • Recruit alumni and 2CMs for Tulsa National Institute positions to strategically build skill in educational leadership
    • Manage key partnerships like the GKFF/OU grants and loans benefits program
  • Manage data about alumni retention, outcomes of meetings/experiences and share with community members and staff

Cultivate and connect corps member and alumni communities (25%)

  • Organize, plan, manage and execute 2CM-to-alumnihood programming, including Alumni Induction, potential community dinners
  • Support the formation and continued development of alumni led groups, such as Prism and the Collective

Lead across the movement (15%)

  • Serve as active and engaged members of communities in Tulsa
  • Operate with a deep commitment to our core values, including fostering a diverse movement by partnering with people in the communities that may offer differing perspectives such as parents, teachers, community members, and school leaders
  • Participate as a member of the regional Alumni Leadership Team
  • Participate in all staff regional commitments (e.g., selection, matriculation, events, team meetings, regional alumni initiatives)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 2 years of professional work experience is preferred; can include multiple sectors of experience inside and outside of education
  • Experience working in the Oklahoma educational landscape is preferred
  • Teach For America corps member and/or staff member experience is strongly preferred
  • Ability to translate data into actionable solutions
  • Exceptional strategic and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to set and evolve project vision and direction
  • Superb organization, detail-orientation, and project management skills
  • Eager to promote Tulsa; energized by building networks and inspiring others to commit to opportunities in Tulsa
  • Knack for influencing others toward outcomes through sophisticated relationship management
  • Ability to build strong relationships with others in challenging situations
  • Ability to provide others with effective professional development, coaching and mentoring
  • Demonstrates professional maturity and sound judgment

Work Demands:

  • Ability to travel to in-person meetings in various U.S. cities [1-2 times/year]
  • Ability to travel independently to multiple locations throughout Tulsa and the surrounding area for work
  • Weekend or evening work is required
