The Childcare Program Director position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA of Southern Arizona is seeking qualified applicants who will provide leadership to the Youth Development department at the Ott Family YMCA and Lighthouse/City YMCA for preschool and school-age children.
This position will function as a key member of the leadership team in developing community relationships with area schools, teachers, and administrators as well as being able to articulate the benefits of YMCA programming to the public. The Director is responsible for overseeing 8 after school childcare sites, one half day onsite preschool and 6 summer day camp sites with a staff team of about 40 to provide childcare services, throughout Tucson and Vail.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Maintains proper records and department files to ensure all staff and volunteers have appropriate and valid certifications and background checks.
- Develops, implements, and leads the after school, summer day camp and preschool programs with age and developmentally appropriate activities. Ensures that the curriculum is in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the YMCA and teaches the Character Values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Administers the annual operating budget and makes adjustments accordingly based on revenue and expenses to meet targets. Develops the annual childcare budget.
- Develops & implements curriculum for child care programs and prepares revenue and expense projections. Monitors financial indicators and member feedback to assess program effectiveness.
- Oversees programs to ensure programs are effective and they meet community needs. Identifies collaborative efforts to utilize facilities and services with local schools and organizations. Develops and nurtures collaborative relationships with schools and community organizations.
- Has prior knowledge of Licensing & Quality Assurance standards for specific program initiatives (Quality First, First Thing First, HEPA Standards, Literacy, Achievement, STEM Programming).
- Insures program operation is consistent with Association procedures, including emergency procedures, insurance requirements, accident reporting, purchasing, personnel/payroll, CPS reporting, and accounting system.
- Establishes new program activities, increases participation, and expands programming within the community in accordance with Association/Branch strategic and operating plans.
- Monitors department programs and services through regular visitation of all program sites and the development of appropriate tools.
- Participates accordingly in branch projects as assigned as well as staff trainings and meetings, cohort meetings, and special events. Supports Annual Campaign and other special events.
- Visits all sites on a regular basis. Maintains a visitation log and records observations. Follows up on any needed improvements. Monitors any issues that require conversations or meetings or other follow up with parents.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. May organize and schedule program registrations. Reviews and processes program scholarship applications if applicable.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies including school principals, staff and families.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Two years of experience in supervisory/management position in childcare programs with preferred experience in licensed childcare programs.
- Knowledge of Arizona Childcare licensing criteria. The incumbent must possess a current Arizona fingerprint clearance card or submit the application for a fingerprint card within 7 days of hire.
- Non-profit experience preferred.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with team members focusing on creating, implementing, and evaluating age appropriate activities.
- Personal commitment to creating excellent out of school time programs for kids with learning and enrichment goals that are memorable and aid in the development of youth as leaders in our community.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and use of social media for marketing outreach.
- Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule that may include morning, evening, and weekend hours.
Salary: $42,000.00 - $47,000.00
