Under the direction of the Director of Early Childhood Programs and/or Executive Director of Youth Development the Assistant Director of Early Childhood Programs, in cooperation with other staff, is responsible for carrying out the day to day operations for early childhood programs with a focus on program quality and program growth. The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for overseeing Quality First initiatives, program enrollment, curriculum implementation, staffing, health and safety, billing and state licensing requirements. The Assistant Director is expected to create a quality experience for children and parents with an emphasis on achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and their families. This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
- Develops and implements a curriculum that is culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
- Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
- Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each classroom including child and coaching of teachers.
- Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents and host site personnel. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
- Maintains program site and equipment, maintain required program records and inventory of materials. Order necessary supplies and inventory materials.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings, and staff training.
- Remain in accordance to state licensing and state subsidy rules/regulations.
- Adhere to guidelines applicable to Child and Adult Care Food Program and attend CACFP annual training. Orient and train staff on requires procedural steps.
- Obtain eighteen (18) hours of training and/or course work annually within childcare field.
- Assist in the implementation of the operating budget and exercise appropriate controls to ensure operations are maintained in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
- Current Fingerprint clearance card or the ability to apply for one within seven (7) days of hire
- Minimum age requirement: 21 years of age
- Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications or completion within thirty (30) days of hire
- Completion of the Ys online training within seven (7) days of hire
- Previous experience working with children.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
- program activities.
- Previous experience with diverse populations with the ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Hourly: $15.00 - $18.00
