This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Position directs all aspects of Membership and Health & Wellbeing for the Ott Family YMCA; specifically including the recruitment of new members, retention and engagement of existing members, development of a high quality staff teams, programming to deliver the best health and wellness options, creating a system for new member on boarding and retention, implementing new classes and exercise activities for participants of varying ages. The Director develops strategies, cultivates relationships and achieves goals for membership growth, develops new and enhances current healthy living programs to support the goals of members, and will also be responsible for budget development and implementation, member retention through innovative programming, community outreach, relationship building, and staff development.
- Establishes new health and wellness program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Gathers and uses data such as member feedback to develop and implement additional diverse wellness programming an make quality improvements.
- Hires, trains and supervises assigned staff (18-25) which includes instructors and trainers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance and keeps records of staff certifications. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Directs and supervises program activities. Leads group exercise classes as a substitute instructor when needed. Organizes and conducts personal training and fitness sessions to facilitate relationship building between members.
- Organizes and leads department staff meetings. Trains staff on ActivTrax system and how to use this as one tool to onboard new members and retain existing members. Provides training opportunities for staff (online and/or in person) to continue staff professional development as branch and department budget permits.
- Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
- Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and/or membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
- Develops and executes relationship building strategies with all staff and members; ensure staff (10-12) are trained to achieve highest level of customer service and interactions. Develops strategies to motivate the team to achieve goals.
- Oversee planning, development and management of the annual Membership and Healthy Living budgets; implement plans for growth and take appropriate action to correct variances.
- Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
- Be an intricate member of the leadership team, working towards the overall success of the organization with a goal of increasing membership growth, satisfaction and retention.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Develops and executes local marketing and communication strategies, including digital mediums.
- Monitors daily operations to adhere to all YMCA and state health and safety standards and policies. Identifies and addresses risk management issues that may arise. Seeks feedback from Executive Director regarding risk management solutions as applicable. Maintains equipment and facilities. Purchases equipment, parts and supplies as required based on available branch and department resources. Coordinates and schedules equipment maintenance and repairs.
- equivalent education and leadership experience in leading healthy living programs, sales & customer service teams in for or non-profit setting. (2 years minimum).
- Two years of experience in supervisory/management position.
- Current certification in group exercise and/or personal training preferred; including certification by AFAA, ACE, or another accredited certification as approved by the YMCA.
- Knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology with applications to developing personal training packages, small group exercise programs, and larger group exercise classes.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Strong history of developing meaningful relationships and personal commitment to high quality customer experiences.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and use of social media for marketing outreach.
- Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule that may include morning, evening, and weekend hours.
Salary: $36,000.00 - $40,000.00
