The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA is seeking an energetic and experienced applicant who will help drive the HR strategy, culture, and work environment for the association.  This person will provide strategic and operational leadership across the entire employee lifecycle, including hiring, on boarding, employee experience, recognition, training, and career/professional development.  This person will help organization directors and leaders help manage the employee relations and employee engagement initiatives in accordance with the organization's mission, values, and goals.  The director will possess the ability to diagnose complex employee matters and develop and implement sound, balanced solutions under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer and senior leadership.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work with directors to efficiently and effectively fill open positions and create a 30-60-90 day onboarding plan to help retain quality staff 
  • Effectively oversee implementation of Y-USA association child abuse prevention standards, HR related crisis management, ensure compliance with all HR related state and federal labor laws
  • Working with senior leadership, design and deliver training, development, coaching, and performance management programs to support the YMCA Employee Experience Roadmap and alignment with YMCA core values.  
  • Work with department leaders in the development and implementation of department specific hiring strategies resulting in a strong employer brand and staff vacancy reduction.
  • Establish strategies and systems to develop employee feedback protocols
  • Respond to member and staff concerns (i.e. comment cards, walk-ins, phone calls, etc.)
  • Attend trainings, seminars, and conferences related to Human Resources, and professional development trainings
  • Assist in fundraising efforts and annual campaigns with a focus on staff as donors 
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, or equivalent required (Bachelors degree preferred).
Skills/Experience: 
  • Certifications: CPR and AED required; PHR/SPHR certification preferred
  • Three to five years of professional experience in human resource related position
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to develop and execute strategies 
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to communicate with all levels of staff with a high degree of professionalism
  • Must be able to handle confidential information with a high degree of discretion 
  • Comfortable working with and learning new computer operational systems
  • Strong consulting, coaching, and facilitation skills
  • A commitment to participate as part of an active team to ensure the success of the organization
  • Grow a deep understanding of the YMCA mission, vision, and community impact goals
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,000.00 - $42,000.00
