The Director of Development will oversee and manage all strategic fundraising activities of the Ocean County YMCA. In partnership with the President and CEO, the Director of Development will set annual and multi-year goals and design and implement a comprehensive development strategy to maximize and leverage relationships with current donors, volunteers, and members, as well as identify and cultivate relationships with new prospective donors.  The Director of Development, along with Board members, staff and volunteers, will secure and solicit gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations to accomplish fundraising goals.  Additionally, the Director of Development will work with Membership and Marketing leadership to provide oversight on elements of the communications plan that directly impact donors and prospects, especially those with major gift capacity

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic fundraising plan for individuals, corporations, and foundations, with elements that include prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and donor recognition.
  • Manage and maintain an active moves management process for all major gift prospects—involving the President and CEO, Board members and senior staff in the development and execution.
  • Develop clear expectations, processes, systems, metrics and performance measures to guide fundraising goals and donor/prospect contacts.
  • Work in concert with the YMCA’s program staff to secure grants from government sources, foundations, private trusts, and the United Way.
  • Provide leadership and support for capital fundraising efforts, incorporating goals and strategies into annual and multi-year plans, where appropriate.
  • Maintain current and accurate data on all prospects and donors in partnership with the Director of Administrative Services.
  • Provide support for all fundraising events, including management of staff and contracted services.
  • In partnership with Marketing and Membership leadership, develop a strategic marketing and communications plan to increase the YMCA’s visibility in the community, to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support, and to drive fundraising success.
  • Develop a strong presence in the community through effective networking, planning, and execution of communications programming.
  • Assist the President and CEO with Board recruitment, onboarding and development, as appropriate.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Major Gifts Committee of the Board of Directors; and attend key meetings, such as Board of Directors and weekly/monthly staff meetings.
  • Train Board members, volunteers and staff on all aspects of fundraising.
  • Work with the President and CEO on implementing the strategic plan, operating plan and development plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Must possess a four-year college degree, and preferably, have attained professional certification through AFP and/or NAYDO. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have significant fundraising experience (at least seven years), with demonstrated success in building capacity and increasing revenue, as well as experience developing and maintaining productive and harmonious relationships with Board members, colleagues, partners, and community members. 
  • Must have experience in managing a portfolio of prospective and major donors. 
  • Must have working knowledge of philanthropic and charitable giving methods, processes and regulations.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in campaign management, especially working knowledge of campaign communications and marketing strategies. 
  • Must have excellent computer skills, including knowledge of eTapestry (preferred, not required) and Microsoft Office. 
  • Must possess exceptional public speaking and writing abilities to be able to convey mission and key development priorities clearly and persuasively to leadership, staff, donors, prospects, and the community at-large.  
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00
