The YMCA of Greater Toledo is Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan’s largest not for profit agency, serving over 57,000 members annually. The YMCA of Greater Toledo is a thriving, association with 10 branches; the Sylvania YMCA/JCC serves the Sylvania, OH area with great partnerships and community support. The Sylvania JCC opened in 1978, the branch has a current operating budget of $2.5 million. The community is characterized by good people, affordable housing prices and great schools. The Association management team is seeking an individual who possess vision, strategic planning, collaboration and accountability.
The YMCA of Greater Toledo and the Jewish Community Center came together in 2004 to provide joint programming at the JCC Campus on Sylvania Avenue. A formal Integration Agreement was executed between the two organizations, which made the JCC campus an official branch of the YMCA. While each organization continued to maintain their identities, the Agreement formalized that the YMCA’s leadership team would lead the overall operations and management of the facility.
After a two-decade relationship built on partnership and respect, the two organizations have agreed to discuss the next step in their plan for the future.
The Boards of the YMCA and the Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo have unanimously agreed to pursue the sale of the JCC Campus to the YMCA. With ownership, the YMCA intends to invest in and expand the facility in order to provide a broader array of programs and services to the community.
The 65,000 sq. ft. facility has a gymnasium, aerobics studio, fitness center, racquetball/squash courts, locker rooms, and dance and art studios. There is also a large outdoor pool with a high dive, along with a baby pool, pavilion, basketball court, softball field and brand new pickle ball courts. A separate child care facility is on the campus, as well.
Under the guidance of the District Vice President, the Executive Director is responsible for administering the total operation of the Sylvania/JCC branch including membership, marketing, programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations and collaborations with community organizations.
The Branch Executive is responsible for the overall success of the branch and it’s departments. This position is primarily concerned with ensuring quality programs and building positive long-term relationships with members. This branch is viewed as a resource to the association; therefore, successful fulfillment of this position will be measured by:
- Continued growth of the budget, membership, program and program enrollment.
- Increased utilization of volunteers
- The effectiveness of its branch Board of Managers and Board committees.
- Direct the financial development activities of the branch including membership and program growth as well as the Annual Campaign success.
- Develops, manages and monitors the branch operating budget and meets or exceeds budget targets.
- Develops and directs high quality relationship-based engagement strategies. Models relationship building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
- Understands and fully implements the Y-Improvement model at his/her branch and will ensure that all management staff is fully engaged in the process.
- Work with staff to develop and implement approved membership strategies and campaigns.
- Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the mission, goals and strategies.
- Represents and promotes the YMCA/JCC in the local community and develops maintains, and models positive collaborative working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and government entities.
- Coordinate staff and volunteer development, including recruitment, team building, training, evaluation, recognition, terminations, etc.
- Serve as a member of the Leadership Team of the YMCA of Greater Toledo and other association responsibilities as assigned.
- Oversee management and maintenance of facility and equipment, ensuring high quality, safe facilities, grounds and equipment.
- The preferred candidate should have YMCA background to properly understand the nature and function of YMCA programs and services.
- Incumbent should have at minimum Multi-Team or Branch Leader Certification with the YMCA of the USA with prior experience as a branch executive director.
- Strong human relations and communication skills in order to coordinate activities and to work effectively with staff and volunteers are essential.
- Strong leadership, organizational and public relations skills, plus excellent fiscal management are a must.
Salary: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00
