Provides leadership in the development, management and budgeting for Child Care and Day Camp programs. Ensures that programs operate in a safe and quality manner consistent with YMCA guidelines. Provides support to branch fundraising, community collaborations and membership efforts.  Serves as a member of the executive leadership team, providing deliberate leadership to take the Y’s outstanding brand and philanthropic foundation to a new level with innovative, fresh ideas on how best to engage the community, volunteers and contributors, tell the Y story, and secure the funds needed to advance the mission.  Lives our values of Caring, Respect, Honesty and Responsibility.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs, supervises and grows after school programs, summer camp and youth activities for the association to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA strategic plans, objectives and goals.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with state child care licensing agency, community organizations, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  • Ensures all Child Care locations are in compliance with California Child Care Licensing requirements. 
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers for programs as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Provide direct supervision to department staff, assuring that all staff are qualified, certified and are meeting minimum performance standards for their position in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Provide supervision along with the Executive Director to assigned Program Directors.
  • Provide training for staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis through staff meetings, special courses and workshops.
  • Lead child abuse training for the entire association including all employees and volunteers.
  • Provide leadership to Program Directors with regards to managing programs and facilities in order to meet operating plans.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • 1Leads the child care PMT meetings and assists with committee meeting as assigned by supervisor.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Uses quality assurance measures, such as surveys for all youth programs.
  • Ensures safety compliance, building and equipment maintenance, exceptionally clean facilities and well- kept grounds.  
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in education, recreation management or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Bachelor's degree in education, recreation management or related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in child care, camp or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Knowledge of acceptable child care and day camp practices.
  • Supervisory experience with staffing and budgeting responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of acceptable child care and day camp practices.
  • Knowledge of California childcare licensing regulations.
  • Ability to mentor staff.
  • Ability to build a relationship with school staff.
  • Ability to work productively in teams, task forces and planning groups.
  • Demonstrates initiative to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • All required online training must be completed before starting work.
  • Mandated reporting course completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Familiarity with mandated reporting and steps that need to be taken.
  • CPR & First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization.  Certifications must be maintained and current at all times.
  • Must have Health and TB clearance.
  • Must have up to date TDAP, MMR and Influenza vaccinations.
  • Criminal records clearance.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00
