The Board of Directors of the Tom A. Finch Community YMCA (“YMCA”) is seeking a leader to build upon the rich history and financial success of the YMCA. The next CEO must meet the challenge of maintaining the strong financial momentum while setting a vision for the future with innovative and creative ways to serve the community. The YMCA is known in the community for its hospitality and welcoming attitude with warm and friendly staff and volunteers. It is important to continue this level of service and support through the development of leadership staff that provides opportunities to create new programs and ways to serve more people in the community.

A growing need in the community is services and programs to outlying areas beyond the YMCA walls, such as an intentional partnership and engagement in chronic disease prevention and management programs. A method to deliver on these initiatives is to increase philanthropic efforts to better serve and create communication delivery methods for the community to understand the mission and cause of the YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Key deliverables within the first 18 months:

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with the foundations and community partners.
  • Initiate new strategies and programs that seek opportunities to serve all in the community.
  • Provide a clear communication strategy and marketing plan to communicate the Y’s impact and benefits in the community.
  • Empower and create an environment for staff to take calculated risks in new program development to better serve others.
  • Become an active member in the community by taking an active role with various organizations to truly give back to the community.

Board Expectations:

Advocate the Vision of the Y, serving as a Cause-Driven Leader:

  • Inspire and mobilize Y staff, members, board, program volunteers and area citizens —everywhere the Y has a presence—to strengthen the community.
  • Actively interact with and communicate with Y members, donors, staff and volunteers.
  • Be seen as an active and integral member of the community who earns respect as a local leader.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the mission, cause and vision for the Y.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, while always upholding the highest standards and values of the Y.

Build and Manage the Staff Team:

  • Serve as a leader who can motivate, engage, and retain staff in a positive and productive manner by creating and setting an expectation for excellence.

  • Display integrity, with a high regard for honesty and courage.
  • Maintain an open mind to innovative ways of improving services and expanding impact.

Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan:

  • Work effectively with the board of directors, volunteers, community leaders and key staff to identify critical community needs.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap focused on organizational strategies.
  • Lead staff in the development and implementation of goals through an annual operating plan.
  • Lead volunteers in aligning committees and their assigned area of work to support the strategies and goals of the Y.

Nurture a Mission-Driven Culture:

  • Champion a culture of inclusion, integrity, character and life-long learning within the Y organization.

  • In alignment with the Y’s mission, seek to foster an environment where diversity is celebrated and where all members, program participants, volunteers, and staff can reach their fullest potential.

Fiscal Management:

  • Ensure that the Y’s financial resources are properly managed and report on its financial position.
  • Use high level financial analysis to forecast trends, growth and stability.
  • Maintain a balanced or surplus operation by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs.
  • Empower and guide staff to lead their departments and monitor and meet budgets.
  • Develop and implement stewardship strategies.

Educational Background: 
Accredited 4-year college degree.
Skills/Experience: 

Minimum Criteria for Candidates:

  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
  • Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
  • Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
  • Possesses the ability to develop new programs and review and enhance existing programs currently being offered as to their financial feasibility and effectiveness in broadening the engagement in the communities served.

Preferred Criteria for Candidates:

  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (obtained within 3 years of hire).
  • Fiscally sound business management approach.
  • Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual campaigns and the securing of grants.
  • A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management in excess of $1M annually.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary Range:  $85,000 - $105,000 annualized, commensurate with experience.

Benefits:  Retirement contribution at 9% after eligibility requirements are met, vacation plan, health plan and other benefits per personnel policy included
