The Aquatics Director is responsible to ensure all participants are provided with activities which promote the social, cultural, educational, physical, and leadership potential of the child. Under the Aquatics Director’s supervision all aquatic facilities will be clean and staffed by certified employees who reflect and support the Mission of the Old Colony Y. He/she will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y, and regulating agency. The Aquatics Director will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a liaison between parents, staff and other administrative personnel
- Effectively lead the pool facilities to ensure maximum usage throughout the program year including swim lessons, lap lanes, , and programs.
- Successfully lead V6 swim lessons by increasing lesson registration and overall experience for swim participants.
- Directly coordinate facility safety drills utilizing Jeff Ellis LG & LGI protocols monthly for the facility.
- Coordinate pool usage with all program departments including preschool, afterschool, and summer camp.
- Successfully learn, implement, and lead Y-Ability(Swim) program for the Taunton community
- Implementing Water Wise program for the Taunton School system and community
- Assist in CPR/First Aid trainings lead by the aquatic department
- Oversee the standardization of student testing for swimming levels leading to swim lesson registrations.
- Supervise and ensure safety of locker rooms and other areas for members at all times.
- Supervise aquatic events and encourage staff and members to participate in all Old Colony YMCA programs, services and events.
- Report all incidents/accidents on Logic Manager in a timely manner and submit to supervisor.
- Prepare marketing information ensuring maximum promotion the aquatic programs throughout the community
- Teach swim classes as needed as well as Lifeguard as needed.
SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL:
- Oversee lifeguards, swim instructors, and swim team coaches either directly or through designated leadership staff.
- Recruit, hire, train and evaluate aquatic staff and volunteers.
- Wear staff uniform and whistle at all times (while guarding) and ensure staff members do so as well.
- Assign and post staff schedules ensuring adequate coverage of the pool at all times.
- Ensure that all certifications and in-service training requirements are up to date for all staff and documentation is properly filed.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, program registration, purchase orders and employee expenses.
- Keep accurate attendance records and class records, checking with membership service before entering new names to rosters.
- Complete payroll in a timely manner each pay period
- Participate in the Annual Campaign by running at least one fundraising event in the aquatic department.
- Develop annual budget as it pertains to aquatics.
- Manage the aquatic portion of the program budget to meet or exceed the budgeted numbers.
- Promote, recruit and maintain memberships.
FACILITY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Properly test water for chemical balance and record at assigned times (inform maintenance staff of chemical level problems).
- Check all safety equipment, reporting any problems in writing to supervisor.
- Properly open and close pool as scheduled without error.
- Ensure security and safety of pool area, never leaving area unattended or unlocked, check all doors and windows.
- Ensure cleanliness of pool areas daily, daily hosing of the deck, weekly power washing, brushing down walls of pool, daily pool vacuuming, cleaning staff area, putting equipment away in storage closet neatly, inspecting pool area and reporting all problems in writing to supervisor. Assign various jobs to staff by successfully delegating daily tasks.
- Ensure that staff members are informing participants about program and pool procedures and enforcing all posted rules.
COMMITTEE AND COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in annual campaign including Spinathon, Turkey Trot, Golf Tournament and more.
- Promote Y programs through public appearances and presentations.
- Participate in your local community board
INTERDIVISIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend Aquatic Affinity meetings
- Instruct a minimum of 2 Ellis Lifeguard Training classes in the fiscal year.
- WSI or YMCA Swim Certification required
- Team Leader Certification from Y-USA
- Must acquire and maintain certification with the following and within required timelines: Ellis LG & LGI, YMCA LG & LGI, YSL & YSLI, YMCA Swim Instructor and YMCA Swim Instructor Trainer, YMCA Aquatic Management, and Pool Certification
- Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience
- Certified Pool Operator License
- Must be physically able to teach aquatic lessons and lift an adult male from the pool to the pool deck
- Complete program specific and employee orientation training by required timeline.
