The Executive Director is the top management leader of the Suncoast chapter and is responsible for providing overall leadership and management for fundraising strategies and operations designed to create cost-effective and on-going sources of revenue growth, community outreach, volunteer expansion and engagement, and mission enhancement for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) within the chapter's market territory. The market territory includes the main chapter office in Tampa, and surrounding areas.   In addition, the Executive Director is responsible for leading talent acquisition and development, developing and managing high performing and aligned matrix chapter teams, driving marketing and sales activation, managing the Chapter’s annual budget, and executing the operating plan, and in administering LLS policies and procedures necessary to the efficient functioning of the chapter.

As a critical member of the LLS management team, the Executive Director is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of LLS’s enterprise-wide Strategic Relationship Management model and processes via engaged and proactive collaboration with the Major Gifts team and the product teams (Team in Training, Light the Night, Student Series, Man & Woman of the Year and Student of the Year). Moreover, the Executive Director will be responsible for being an effective leader and role model at the Chapter level modeling the behavior and characteristics for driving LLS’s values of COAT (Collaboration, Openness, Accountability, and Transparency) and for driving a culture of innovation and risk-taking towards continuous financial improvement.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Volunteer Development and Fundraising

  • Recruit, develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors that is reflective of the local community and build Board involvement and engagement with strategic direction for both ongoing local operations as well as for national rollouts.
  • Partner with the Board Chair on Strategies to maximize Board effectiveness. Guide the Standing Committees of the Chapter Board of Trustees providing leadership, fundraising acumen, cultivation, acknowledgement, material support, and assistance in building and implementing annual plans and goals that parallel National strategies and financial goals.
  • Recruit, develop and support high-level volunteers to lead the local chapter fundraising campaigns. Work with staff to support the lead volunteers in expanding the reach and fundraising for the Mission.
  • Serves as the Chief Fundraising Officer of the Chapter – driving best practices and top-level revenue-enhancing focus and drive to achieve gross revenue goals and other specific financial measurements for maximum results in tandem with National strategic plans and financial goals.
  • Serves as primary staff spokesperson to promote the understanding of the LLS mission and presence in the chapter territory.
  • Oversees the recruitment and engagement of key volunteers to support the annual plan of work across donor development and the campaigns (TNT, LTN, MWOY, SOY, Student Series, etc.).
  • Directs the cultivation and acquisition of major donors, foundation and corporate contributions through grants, sponsorship and material and/or in-kind support.

Chapter Mission, Strategy and Operations

  • Works collaboratively with National Office, Local Board and Chapter Staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through effective programs, strategic and operational planning and community outreach (both donors and volunteers).
  • Accountable for strategic planning to ensure that LLS’s strategy is effectively translated to the Chapter level to drive market & donor development and sustained revenue growth.
  • Accountable for implementing the optimal resources, organization structure (i.e., FTE’s, Matrix, etc.) and operations to protect margins. 

Chapter Leadership & Management and Communications

  • Achieve Chapter Revenue Goal
  • Ensures ongoing Chapter operations excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems: recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain Chapter’s staff, management team and volunteers.
  • Accountable for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource allocation, and maintenance of the Chapter in a positive financial position.
  • Ensures Chapter wide connector meetings across campaigns.
  • Provides leadership, direction, management and training for chapter staff in the development and implementation of operational plans.
  • Serves as catalyst to identify, recruit, train, develop, recognize and retain volunteer leadership at all levels of chapter operations to achieve strategic initiatives.
  • Cultivates productive relationships with the media and various constituent and related groups including professional, educational and political leadership.
  • Oversees the efficient and effective operation of chapter personnel and the facility in accordance with the policies and procedures established by LLS.
  • Ensures and oversees the preparation of reports, chapter records and other documentation as requested which present the progress and status of the chapter's plans and activities.
  • Implement the approval process for all contracts, purchases and banking activities in accordance with LLS operational policies and/or practices.
  • Provide leadership in building confidence and a strong working relationship between the Chapter office and National Office. 
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the LLS mission and programs to promote the field and campaign fundraising initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree required, advanced degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible related experience with a minimum of 4 years in senior management 
  • Collaborate with Mission Team ensuring success of patient access, education, public policy & advocacy and research
  • Proven fundraising results with knowledge and experienced in nonprofit and volunteer management
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in nonprofit and volunteer management
  • Proficiency in fiscal management with strong analytical capabilities
  • Ability to leverage relationships and negotiate agreements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of digital, social media & emerging online channels
  • Proven supervisory, leadership and team-building skills
  • Training and/or experience in community development and strategic planning
  • Ability in volunteer recruitment and development
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Weekend & evening work required
  • Travel approximately 50%-75% of time
