We are seeking a proven, self-motivated, cause-driven professional to provide leadership for the multi-site gymnastics program, with a hands-on focus on the competitive program. The Director will lead all aspects of planning and preparation for the Top Flight competitive program at the two gymnastics centers, along with providing guidance and support to the recreational programs. This position will also be responsible for the recruitment and development of coaches and gymnastics participating within the gymnastics programs. This position will provide hands-on instruction and coaching while leading the team in preparing gymnasts for competition. This position will report to both the Bob Sierra and North Brandon Executive Directors.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Competitive Gymnastics Team Quality and Growth

  • In partnership with the Center Executive Directors, focuses on strategic plan initiatives, best practices and the elevation of the gymnastics program as a "signature program” for the Tampa YMCA.
  • Leads strategy implementation to achieve strategic plan targets for competitive team growth in both registration numbers and revenue targets.
  • In partnership with the Recreational Program Directors, recruit and retain skilled recreational and competitive gymnastics coaches to ensure program quality and growth.
  • Provide consistent hands-on instruction and coaching.
  • Support and implement association survey and measurement strategies and action plans - Base Metrics and NPS.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Supports site Program Director in effectively communicating with the parents of the gymnasts and provides communications directly as appropriate.

Safety and Risk Management

  • Ensures all Tampa Y standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
  • Ensures all gymnastics associates are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures.
  • Ensure proper records, including associate certifications, associate meetings and trainings, and daily logs used for policy and procedure review.
  • Schedules gymnastics associates in accordance to program needs and ensures all safety and program ratios are followed.
  • Monitors daily gymnastics center operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health & safety regulation.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Ensures staff at all levels within the program are safely spotting and lifting gymnasts.
  • Supervise gymnasts before, during and after classes/ practices.

Team Leadership

  • Direct responsibility to hire, develop, motivate and retain two Recreational Program Directors and a team of gymnastics competitive coaches committed to the YMCA’s mission.
  • Supervises/coaches associates to deliver quality programming creating increased member value.
  • Serves as the Tampa YMCA representative at gymnastics meets and competitions and supervises logistics of staff members and gymnasts at gymnastics meets and competitions.
  • Advocates for association-wide practices and is a source for innovative ways to grow the membership experience, base, and practices.
  • Develops and monitors associate development plans and training opportunities that promote career growth within the Y.
  • Completes all job related, supervisory and other trainings as required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • USAG Member or equivalent preferred.
  • Floor routine choreography experience required.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in youth gymnastics instruction/coaching, spotting, equipment and technique.Extensive gymnastics or dance background, leadership experience, and a passion for teaching. 2+ years of experience in YMCA programs, philosophies and objectives preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years coaching competitive team coaches.
  • Experience in managing budgets and program revenue.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to communicate to participants in a timely manner, ensuring that participants are well informed of important program information.
  • Prior high-level (levels 6-10) gymnast or coaching experience preferred.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, communication, organization and the ability to work within specific time constraints.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $42,000.00 - $52,000.00
