Leads all camping programs across the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA association.
The Youth Development Regional Camp Director will lead the youth development camp staff in driving superior program quality, increasing program enrollments, hiring and developing staff, and enhancing participant experience for all camping programs across the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA association. This position ensures that the youth development camp team operates efficiently and employs a continuous improvement model to meet and/or exceed goals for participant satisfaction, financial management and overall growth in all camping programs across the association. During the summer camping season, the Regional Camp Director will be responsible for oversight of the Bob Sierra Youth and Family Center’s summer day camp programs, serving over 400 campers daily.
Safety and Risk Management
- Ensures all Tampa Y youth development camp standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
- Ensures all youth development camp staff are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures.
Program Quality and Growth
- Focus on strategic plan initiatives, best practices and the elevation of camping programs as a "signature program." This includes: Developing and ensuring delivery of camp curriculum with a focus on the core components established by the YUSA; Work closely with the appropriate Y program locations to create/maintain/improve relations with staff and community in order to work together to reach members and possible participants in the camping program; Leverages marketing resources and drives frequent/regular community, web and social media communications and engagement; Develop and implement association survey and measurement strategies and action plans - Seer Base Metrics and NPS.
Team Leadership
- Supervises and leads Youth Development Camp Coordinators to hire, develop, motivate and retain a committed team passionate about the YMCA's mission, safety and service to members, and the Tampa Y promise.
- Supervises and leads Youth Development camp team to create and maintain meaningful and impactful relationships with the families, center locations, staff, community leaders and members
- BA/BS in youth related field (Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education), business/operational management or related field or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of four years of experience in camp or other youth related programs with at least two years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Highly motivated with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals, cultivate and retain program participants.

- Proficient in using email, Internet, and other PC-based applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, customer service/tracking applications) with the ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
Certifications/Trainings Required:
- Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen Administration.
- Must start DCF childcare training within the first 90-days of hire/promotion. All 40 hours of training must be completed within 6 months.
- This position requires a valid driver license and will require frequent local travel between centers.
