The Sports Experience Director will be responsible for implementing and overseeing all sports programs including sports camps and clinics as well as youth & adult sports. The Sports Experience Director implements initiatives that demonstrate an adherence to the mission of the Y with a focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The position will work with and report directly to the Sports Experience Executive to provide quality service and communication to members and program participants and ensure an excellent Y program experience for all participants. This position will lead staff and volunteer recruitment, training and development and overall program growth and quality for their assigned centers. This position ensures sports departments operate efficiently and employ a continuous improvement model to meet and/or exceed goals for safety, program quality, membership satisfaction and budgeted revenue.
Safety and Risk Management
- Ensures all Tampa Y sports standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
- Ensures all sports staff members are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures.
- Maintain proper records, including staff member certifications, staff member meetings, and trainings.
- Schedules sports staff members and volunteers in accordance to safety and program needs and ensures all safety and program ratios are followed.
- Monitors sports programming to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health & safety regulations.
Program Quality and Growth
- Focus on strategic plan initiatives, best practices and the elevation of sports as a "signature program."
- Assist in strategy implementation to achieve strategic plan targets for sports programming.
- Generates and/or analyzes program enrollment, and revenue to monitor and report on achievement of goals.
- Develop and implement association survey and measurement strategies and action plans - Seer Base Metrics and NPS.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Team Leadership
- Supervises and leads Sports Experience Coordinators to hire, develop, motivate and retain a committed team passionate about the YMCA's mission, safety and service to members, and the Tampa Y promise.
- Recruits volunteers to support sports programming needs.
- Promotes and adheres to all Tampa Y safety protocols and serves as a resource for peers and other association staff.
- Must possess and utilize excellent organizational skills, with the ability to delegate effectively, empower staff members, and tailor monitoring of progress to each staff members’ unique work styles.
- Advocates for association-wide best practices and is a source for innovative ways to grow sports programs and enhance the member experience.
- Provides collaborative leadership and guidance to peers through Sports Experience Cabinet meetings.
- Creation, development, and monitoring of staff member development plans and training opportunities that promote career growth within the Y.
- Completes all job related, supervisory and other trainings as required.
- The ideal candidate will have a minimum of four years experience in sports programming in a wide variety of both youth and adult sports.
- The ideal candidate will have the ability to direct total operations through strategic planning, creative new program innovation and program improvement, budget development, organizational design and strategic hiring, staff member professional growth, operational execution, effective delegation and budget management.
- They will be highly motivated, with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals. They will have the ability to quickly build rapport and develop effective relationships with members and program participants.
- This position requires a flexible work schedule with availability to work evenings and Saturdays.
- This position requires a valid driver license and will require frequent local travel between centers.
- Successful completion of cognitive and behavioral assessments, background screening and drug test. First Aid, CPR, AED and 02 obtained within first 30 days of employment and then maintained throughout employment.
