The Alzheimer's Association, Central & North Florida Chapter provides education, information and support services to persons with dementia, their families, health care professionals, and the community. The Walk Manager supports the mission of the Alzheimer's Association by coordinating fundraising events, increasing public awareness and building community support in the East Central Florida area.
The Walk Manager seeks and secures funding collaborative partnerships and works closely with volunteers, staff and members of the community to achieve strategic goals for the assigned Walk to End Alzheimer's events. In addition, they will play a role in other events designed to increase visibility and fundraising, including third party events sponsored by others with proceeds supporting the Alzheimer’s Association.
This position is based in Tallahassee, FL with frequent travel within the assigned territory and reports to the Development Director.
- Coordinates all aspects of the Alzheimer's Association's signature event, the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Tallahassee, as well as The Longest Day signature event.
- Recruits, motivates and assists team captains and team members for Walk to End Alzheimer's events.
- Tracks, grows, and builds constituency to reach team and individual goals, including tracking and reaching overall sponsor, team, and participation goals.
- Working in collaboration with the Director of Corporate Initiatives, serves as a liaison to businesses, organizations, and/or individuals sponsoring the Walk to End Alzheimer's.
- Recruits, trains and manages volunteers to support all aspects of assigned fundraising events.
- Schedules planning meetings including preparing agendas, meeting minutes and holding volunteers accountable of all assigned fundraising events.
- Promotes Walks and other events through various contact means including phone, email, in person and social media
- Works with staff and volunteers to identify and cultivate new sources of funding and in-kind contributions from businesses, foundations and community organizations.
- Represents the chapter through public speaking, media interviews and community involvement as requested.
- Monitors goals and budget for each Walk.
- Assists volunteers, speakers, sponsors, constituents and other attendees on the day of the events.
- Promotes and participates in other chapter events including but not limited to The Longest Day, RivALZ, Reason to Hope and others.
- 3-5 year's progressive, related professional experience in fundraising, development, or marketing; experience with fundraising software (Convio) a plus
- Effective communication skills to communicate in person, by phone and email with internal and external customers;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and public speaking skills to engage and partner with a wide range of people including family caregivers, volunteers, public officials, and people of high prominence in the community
- Confident, goal-oriented self-starter able to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively with internal and external partners
- Ability to ask for donations, sponsorships and team participation
- High level of professionalism to maintain composure under pressure
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
- High degree of integrity to handle donations in the form of cash, check, credit card or in-kind
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% within the assigned territory by car. Occasional overnight travel or air travel may be required
- Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for the job
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift and transport up to 25 lbs of materials
- Must possess valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance
