The Land Protection Project Manager develops, manages and advances conservation programs, plans and methods for large-scale geographic areas.
The Land Protection Project Manager works within the Land Protection Program for the Florida Chapter to develop land protection and conservation programs, plans, and methods to address critical threats to natural systems and individual species. The Land Protection Project Manager provides technical support to the Land Protection Program, under the supervision of the Land Program Manager. This position will assist the Land Protection Program in developing and implementing conservation projects and land protection strategies for the Chapter including, land and resource use planning, conservation real estate transactions, and other strategies to secure private and public support for TNC’s conservation priorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Successfully work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Develops relationships and works effectively with outside corporate, government, community and non-governmental organization partners to accomplish program goals.
- Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development, and meeting fundraising targets.
- Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
- Under minimal supervision, makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
- Works collaboratively within a cross-functional interdisciplinary team.
- Develops and implements multi-year policy, program or other relevant strategies and goals.
- 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience negotiating complex agreements.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
- Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.
- Experience with principles of land acquisition.
- Experience in training and curriculum design.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in urban and regional planning, public policy, geography, real estate, natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- GIS mapping skills.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams, strong team player who can build relationships and work collaboratively across the organization and with external partners.
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
- Knowledge of land management conservation practice and conservation science.
- Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in real estate, land use regulations, conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation.
- Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
- Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
