If hired for this position you will serve as a member of the President/CEO’s senior leadership team, providing strategic leadership and direction for YMCA business operations and initiatives. You will oversee and manage all financial matters and investments of the organization. You will lead all financial administration, which includes analysis and reporting, planning and budgeting, forecasting and capital management.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Fiscal Management:

  • Monitor monthly financial operations, prepare analysis and reports, and give guidance to executive and operating staff. Work closely with operations staff on issues that affect financial outcome. Prepare specific recommendations.
  • Review, update, and/or develop internal control systems for the YMCA and oversee internal
    audits which check for compliance on a variety of policies and standards. Provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Oversee and certify the annual audit and meet periodically with the outside auditors to maintain communications and keep them informed of changes in the YMCA. Ensure that current accounting standards and legal requirements are met.
  • Manage assets, under the direction of the Finance Committee, and within the risk tolerance expressed by the Board via the asset allocation policy.
  • Develop performance indicators and measurement systems for tracking strategic plan objectives.
  • Evaluate current business models and lead efforts to modify or redesign where necessary.
  • Recommend business-related policies and ensure their implementation.
  • Oversee preparation of reports to YMCA of the USA and governmental agencies. Oversee preparation of tax returns including IRS Form 990.
  • Oversee development of the annual operating budget, including all branch budgets. Work closely with operations staff to ensure that branch budgets are well-planned, realistic, and prepared in a timely manner.
  • Manage tax-exempt bond transactions and file all necessary reports.
  • Establish, maintain and/or monitor all banking and financing relationships.
  • Maintain all necessary records and accounting reports and record all transactions on a timely basis.
  • Manage staff and oversee operations of the accounting/finance team, purchasing and contracts, and other teams as assigned.

Risk Management:

  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the organization’s risk profile
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Report risk issues to the finance committee of the board of directors
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations

Collaborate:

  • Work directly with assigned committee(s) of the board (finance, insurance, investment, audit, for example) to build volunteer relationships, develop policies, monitor their implementation and meet the related needs of the board.
  • Maintain good working relationships with auditors, bankers, investment counselors, attorneys and other professional advisors.
  • Represent the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.

Financial Development and Philanthropy:

  • Meet performance measurement through annual giving, major gifts, and/or endowment by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or equivalent; MBA, CPA or CMA may be preferred.
Skills/Experience: 

This position should have a track record of leading staff and departments to achieve set goals.

  • Eight or more years of substantive experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of general business matters required including budget development, financial reporting, cash management, business taxes, banking and debt
    financing instruments.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, including experience with system selection, new system implementation and project management.
  • Personal computer skills required.
  • Experience with investment management and asset allocation preferred.
  • Experience in effectively managing a staff team.
  • Previous experience with voluntary/nonprofit organizations preferred.

Salary: $145,081.00
