Under the general direction of the Branch Executive Director, and in accordance with the mission, policies and goals of the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties, the Senior Director will plan, coordinate, develop and monitor all membership and administration operations.  This includes fiscal management, marketing & communication, connecting members, creating small groups and assisting with special events. Also responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating employees and volunteers to ensure staff are representative of the mission of the YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Supervise and direct the Membership/Administration Department.
  • Engage people with a smile and enthusiasm. Promote a positive and productive work environment and maintain a strong administrative team. Maintain great customer relations, and effectively negotiate and resolve member service problems.
  • Articulate the benefits of a YMCA membership through guided tours of the facility; guided tour training for staff; tour tracking; follow-up; exit interviews.
  • Track, analyze and provide useful information and action plans from membership statistics and oversee all functions of the membership database.
  • Determine staffing needs and schedules to assist existing and prospective members regarding their individual membership needs and to ensure the highest quality service to our members.
  • Keep all staff up-to-date in pertinent information, YMCA policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and monitor zero-based budget for department budget and related areas and operate programs within the guidelines of established budget, revenue, and expenses.
  • Identify and develop small groups and activities that facilitate member relationships.

Ambassador:

  • Understand our YMCA’s mission, goals, objectives, and programs to relay that information to inquiring families and participants.
  • Understand the financial assistance given to members comes from our yearly Annual Campaign. Assist staff in helping to identify those individuals that may be interested in serving as a campaigner for and a donor to these efforts.
  • Convey information on your programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.
  • Understand and practice YMCA relevant policies and procedures.

 Additional duties:

  • Model our YMCA values through fun, positive relationships with staff and members. Seek every opportunity to encourage, motivate, and thank fellow staff members for their work.
  • Be enthusiastic toward members and staff by learning their names and expressing an interest in their YMCA activities. Strive to enrich their YMCA experience by introducing them to new programs, staff, members, and volunteer activities.
  • Incorporate “Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility” into all aspects of the position, to ensure YMCA values are being integrated into our culture and programs.
  • Maintain a consistent professional image through dress, actions, and relationships with others. Speak enthusiastically on behalf of the YMCA at given opportunities.
  • Participate in applicable training and conferences to further professional growth as outlined in annual training plans.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and/or three to four years related knowledge and experience that includes supervision, fiscal management, program development, staff, and volunteer development.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years experience working with budgets and computers. Knowledge of current adult safety and program standards and the ability to incorporate those into programs. Proven supervisory/management skills.
  • Current Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional, AED First Aid and Oxygen certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. YMCA Multi-Team Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • The ability to demonstrate a friendly, courteous, and professional manner when dealing with members and the ability to understand articulate and enforce YMCA policies and procedures in a positive manner. Strong self-starter and initiator with a passion for service and relationship building.
