Under the supervision of the Branch Executive Director and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA, the Aquatics Director is responsible for developing and implementing programs in aquatics for youth through senior age groups. The Aquatics Director must develop and encourage membership through program participation and direct and supervise all program activities while ensuring a safe aquatic environment.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
- Promote a professional values-based culture by leading with the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
- Participate in promoting YMCA membership through assisting in the recruiting and retaining of members.
- Prepare and administer assigned annual budget, making revisions as necessary to meet or exceed budget guidelines.
- Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual Campaign and Capital Campaigns.
- Plan, supervise, market and implement aquatics program in accordance with established goals and policies.
- Advise supervisor on all phases of staff organization, programs, and plans for future growth of the department and budget.
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the aquatics lifeguard and instructor staff within the approved budget.
- Maintain accurate records. Ensure staff certifications are up to date and current. Maintain department tracking and incident tracking for branch.
- Maintain current certifications and knowledge to ensure that YMCA facilities and equipment are in accordance with health codes.
- Develop and implement aquatics programs for youth through senior age groups.
- Maintain relationships with members and program participants through verbal and written communications and strive to encourage the growth of membership participation.
- Maintain a current schedule of pool activities.
- Maintain and upkeep pool area, facilities and filtration systems.
- Understand and relate the purpose and goals of the YMCA to staff and program participants.
- Ensure that all staff members follow the policies and procedures stated in the Aquatic Staff Manual.
- Provide instruction in Lifeguarding, as well as, CPR and First Aid on a regular basis to staff, and to community as needed.
- Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the Aquatics Department and branch operations to ensure an excellent member experience.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of two years experience in pool management and operations preferred and a history of aquatics programming experience.
- Must hold YMCA certifications (or Red Cross equivalence) in Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Instructor, and YMCA Swimming Instructor; Trainer level certifications preferred.
- Must obtain a Pool Operator certification within first 6 months of employment.
- Must be able to recruit, hire, certify and supervise qualified personnel needed for programs.
- Must be able to provide sound financial judgment and develop and manage a departmental budget.
- Certification of CPR/First Aid/AED/O2.
- Satisfactory completion of criminal background checks and criminal offender registry check.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $25,000.00 - $28,000.00
