Under the direct supervision of the Executive of Community Health and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Fitness Director is responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of all Fitness Center and Group Ex related programs. This position is also responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values are conveyed through program excellence, retention and increased enrollment.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop, plan, organize and supervise all Fitness programs, activities, events and services, including group exercise.
- ROSTER (Recruit, Orient, Supervise, Train, Evaluate, Reward) all fitness center and group ex program staff.
- Support working relationship with health/medical partners and collaborate when applicable.
- Develop all program/activity/class schedules & maintain communication of such with all appropriate staff. Lead regular staff meetings to communicate programs and current issues.
- Provide opportunities for staff training, leadership and certification maintenance.
- Maintain service department(s) quality standards.
- Maintain all department(s) participant, program & activities records.
- Enforce and follow established policies and procedures and execute sound judgment.
- Design special department(s) programs, activities and events to promote member and community involvement, i.e.; road races, fitness days, aerobathons, medical membership.
- Marketing all programs and departments with printed materials.
- Inventory all related program/dept equipment & supplies and order according to budget.
- Direct supervision of maintenance and cleaning of all related programs/department(s) equipment.
- Maintain relations w/ equipment manufacturers and service companies.
- Submit monthly department(s) reports that reflect program participation, retention, priority planning, obstacles, future plans, budgetary explanations, etc.
- Ensure appropriate responses to all dept(s)/programs related comments/compliments.
- Ensure participant and employee safety at all times.
- Continue personal development & education.
- Open communication with all subordinate, professional and front desk staff regarding overall Y vision/direction and all department happenings, program changes, additions or deletions.
- Verify program enrollment, billing, collections and retention.
- Prepare, develop, implement and maintain department(s) budgets.
- Active participation as a member of all branch affiliated fund raising efforts, including but not limited to the Annual Campaign.
- Branch and association responsibilities and/or other duties & activities as assigned by Executive Staff.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree (BA) from four-year College or university required; three to five years of successful fund development experience.
Skills/Experience:
- A highly motivated individual who is able to work well on his/her own initiatives, as well as part of a team.
- A strong, collaborative, out-going, and energetic individual with seasoned fundraising skills is essential.
- Must have experience in the personal solicitation of annual gifts. Individual must be able to think creatively and strategically, have excellent judgment, strong leadership skills and be able to motivate and influence volunteers and campaign leadership.
- Must be a strong communicator, have excellent written, presentation, oral communications, and interpersonal skills.
- Database management and working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Daxko Operations and Accounting or equivalent software packages is required.
- Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles is essential.
Required Certifications
- Minimum of High School Diploma required (BA/BS degree in Health/Fitness field preferred) plus a nationally accredited certification in personal training and group exercise instruction
- Minimum of 3 years of Health, Wellness & Fitness experience in a variety of areas, including but not limited to group exercise, personal training or health promotion preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience preferred
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications
- Must be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and on-line resources
- Knowledge of budgeting and cost analysis
- Must be attentive to details, be able to work with and meet deadlines, take initiative to develop and provide information and controls necessary for efficient operations.
- Must have excellent human relation, written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently independently with little supervision and as part of a team
- Organizational, time management & Problem/Resolution abilities
- Display a personal commitment to health & fitness and customer service
- Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner
- Valid SC Driver’s License.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $25,000.00 - $32,000.00
