The Head Lifeguard will assist the Aquatic Director with planning and delivering Lifeguard In-Service training, conducting staff evaluations, and weekly scheduling for lifeguard staff. The Full-time Head Lifeguard position must be able to work nights and weekends. Thirty hours per week will be in a lifeguarding capacity with 10 hours per week dedicated to administrative duties.

Areas of Responsibility:
- Must be willing and able to act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency situation.
- Identify potential hazards and practice preventative lifeguarding. Maintain constant surveillance of the water, deck and pool areas at all times.
- Be very knowledgeable of the Emergency Action Plans
- Attend ALL meetings and run in-service trainings.
- Responsible for lifeguard drills and proper documentation.
- Find coverage if a lifeguard calls out.
- Oversee the lifeguards’ rotation.
- Ensure pool readings are taken every 2 hours.
- Must be a role model for other staff and adhere to safeguarding habits.
- Ensures lifeguards are modeling characteristics of a Professional Lifeguard- wearing proper uniform, scanning correctly, etc.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety, rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Maintains a professional attitude and appearance, wearing the proper uniform/equipment for each shift.
- Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
- Must be able to supervise staff with tact and respect, maintaining a positive working relationship with them.
- Perform equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Completes other duties as assigned

Educational Background:
High School Graduate (or equivalent) preferred
Skills/Experience:
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience
- An acceptable level of physical fitness to perform in pool activities, rescues and survival skills
- Hold a current YMCA Lifeguard Certification and/or hold a Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- Hold current Professional Rescuer CPR, First Aid, Oxygen Administration and Automated External Defibrillator Certifications
- Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred or able to obtain 3 months
- Be dependable and reliable
Compensation/Benefits:
Hourly: $15.00 - $16.00
