The Director of Competitive Aquatics provides leadership and management for the SAY’s competitive swim teams, Summit Seals & BHCP Breakers, in the areas of staff, budget, and fundraising, as well as program and membership experience. The Director of Competitive Aquatics will be a key part in the Aquatics Department working with other Coordinators to ensure the success of the Department.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide a safe, structured, well rounded, competitive program atmosphere that meets the needs of the community while striving towards excellence in and out of the pool
  • Maintain and build upon the level of excellence currently expected by staff and parents
  • Recruit, hire, train develop, schedule and supervise a high performing coaching staff focused on providing exceptional service and instruction and work well as a team.
  • Supervise Swim Team Admin, whose duties include the management of Team Unify, Team Manager, Meet Manager and the Colorado Timing System.
  • Develop strategies to provide support and motivation to staff for the achievement of goals and retention.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends including travel swim meets
  • Develop, maintain and abide by a yearly budget.
  • Manage and work with the parent volunteer organization, and be the lead at meetings to coordinate team social functions, timing coordination, apparel, and team and YMCA fundraising.
  • Ensure the team complies with YMCA standards and methods of operation.
  • Be visible and approachable to coaches, parents and members.
  • Communicate team information, changes and needs in a timely manner to coaching staff, management and parents.
  • Produce effective and efficient coaching schedule within set payroll budget parameters.
  • Maintain complete familiarity with all risk management procedures and policies.
  • Maintain program area and equipment in an orderly, clean and safe condition and reporting any irregularities to maintenance personnel.
  • Keep an up-to-date and accurate inventory on all equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Provide leadership for assigned aspects of Strong Community Campaign, special events and other fund development to ensure fundraising goals are met.
  • Serve as a member of the branch management team performing specific duties which support the overall success of branch operations.
  • Attend applicable training and conferences to further professional development.
  • As an Ambassador for the Y, communicates to members, volunteers, and the general public that the Y is the nation’s leading non-profit committed to strengthening the community through Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five years minimum swim team coaching experience. Head coach experience a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard Training, YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent. YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming, Athlete Protection. All current USA swimming certifications.
  • Preferred Certifications: Lifeguard Instructor.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Benefits: The Summit Area YMCA offers a full range of employee benefits, 12% retirement upon eligibility, PTO, free family YMCA membership and subsidized child care.

Salary: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00
