Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatic Coordinator will assist in the operations of the Aquatic Department, including program support, staff recruitment and supervision, pool safety management, and training development.
The Aquatics Coordinator will provide direction and supervision for all progressive swim lessons, including development, coordination, evaluation, and promotion. He/she is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, development, and supervision of swim instructors and volunteers, including strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. He/she will also assist in the scheduling of lifeguards, coaches and attendants, as necessary.
The Aquatics Coordinator will serve as a lead coach within the DCY age-group competitive swim team. Background knowledge of all 4 strokes, including technique and form, training theories, training strategy, and training philosophy are essential for this position. He/she will act as head coach when necessary. Responsibilities will include week night practice sessions, morning sessions, and weekend coaching as scheduled and necessary. Spring, summer and dryland training is also part of our program. Duties will also include the operation of the timing system during home swim meets and team meets, results, and web site entry.
The Aquatics Coordinator will be aware of safety measures and implement standards against those measures, ensuring timely and accurate compliance. He/she will be responsible for the development of a lifeguard training program that ensurescertifications and trainings are complete, tracked and reported. He/she will teach, lifeguard, or coach as necessary, and serve as on-duty supervisor as needed and scheduled. The Aquatics Coordinator may be asked to step outside of the Aquatics Department to instruct other wellness or training classes that may or may not be relevant in the development of the aquatics program. The Coordinator serves as a member of YMCA management thereby supporting the overall objectives of the YMCA and must follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Work with marketing department and Aquatics Director to promote aquatics programming and increase participation across all programming venues
- Plan, organize and conduct programming that meets or exceeds expectations and needs of the community while also supporting the developed budget; Be on-deck and readily available during programming to assist and support (as scheduled). Conduct first class orientation for all swim lesson participants/parents, identifying the goals and objectives as well as the specific skills to be taught in the program.
- Recruit, hire, train, motivate and evaluate Instructors/Volunteers in accordance with the direction determined above. Work with Aquatics Director to plan and develop Instructor training curriculum by which instructors are developed and evaluated against.
- Set, manage, and communicate the standards for progression among the various skill levels, with direction of the Aquatics Director. Work with other resources (Aquatics Director/Head Coach) to provide progressive instruction that would bridge the skills acquired from swim lessons to entry level swim team
- Assist in development and management of the annual budget.
- Effectively manage the substitution process and fill in when needed to maintain member satisfaction and expectations.
- Distribute and compile program evaluations for each session of Progressive Instruction, working with the Aquatics Director to analyze
- Coordinate and conduct Observation/Placement testing for new swimmers
- Work with the Aquatics Director to coordinate any special group lessons or events (ie: Safe Swim, School Phy Ed options, Day Camps, etc.), securing instructors and implementing the program set forth

- Aquatics Coordinator will be energetic, enthusiastic, and organized; proficient at basic computer skills including use of Windows, Office, and website maintenance; current certifications in CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding, ASCA coaching Level 2, and WSLI, or the ability to obtain these certifications within 90 days of hire; proven success in customer service, understanding that relationship development is a key to YMCA success, and a desire to support children and adults in their wellness goals. Previous coaching experience with a YMCA or other non-profit organization is preferred.
Salary: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00
