The Operations Director is responsible for implementing the mission, vision and values of the YMCA within the community in accordance with the Association Strategic Plan. He/she will oversee the day-to-day operations of the YMCA and this involves all aspects of building an outstanding staff, building a strong membership as well as a strong program portfolio and establishing the YMCA as an important force for local community development. The Operations Director is responsible for implementing the branch operating plan and preparing and monitoring the annual budget. He/she will assist the District Executive Director in developing an engaged Board of Managers and growing the annual Campaign.
- Develop and implement ongoing membership recruitment and retention plans leading to a growing number of delighted members.
- Expansion of the program portfolio with an emphasis on Aquatics, Health & Wellness, Camp, Child Care and Youth Sports.
- Ensure that the facility is bright, fresh, immaculately clean and well maintained within budget constraints. Implementation of short and long term capital improvement plans.
- Plan and implement community awareness campaigns as well as maintain ongoing promotional programs for membership and programs.
- Build and improve the staff team in accordance with the strategic and operating plan.
- Achievement of a balanced budget inclusive of capital reserves, depreciation, deficit recovery, greater good, and Association support.
- Assist the District Executive Director with strategic development of an engaged board of managers to ensure responsiveness to community needs and commensurate financial support.
- Provide support and assistance for the annual campaign.
- Fully implement and continually evaluate all operational components of the YMCA’s Real-Time Strategic Plan (effective January 1, 2012) as relates to the Stratford Y.
- Provide direct leadership and supervision to Stratford Y staff team. This includes ongoing coaching to ensure achievement of goals.
- Provide leadership to the staff team to ensure the development and implementation of operational and financial plans, with a special emphasis on membership and program growth.
- Improve the image of the Stratford Y in the community through development of strong programs and membership opportunities, community involvement by self and staff team and ongoing presence in the media.
- Efficient day to day operations of the branch including all administrative functions, risk management/compliance plans and facility upkeep.
- Provide leadership and follow through on grant based projects to ensure proper deliver as needed.
- The candidate must have three years of experience in which increased responsibilities were earned (YMCA or non-profit leadership experience preferred); proven success in building membership and the program portfolio; proven success in developing staff; managing budgets; managing building operations; and the recommendations of peers and superiors. Preference is given to leader who has demonstrated success in transforming a YMCA per the key deliverables as described below. YMCA Multi-Team/Branch Leader Certification is preferred; Team Leader is required.
- The candidate must have an understanding of the roles of the members, participants, volunteers, staff and how they function together as well as separately. Specific experiences working with community organizations as a member and/or volunteer are required.
- This position requires proficient skills and understanding of current trends in membership and program development, staff supervision, administration, marketing, and creative problem solving. The candidate is expected to contribute to the advancement of the Association’s goals and objectives. Human relations and communications aspects of this position are extremely important.
