This ad is for a position with our international partner, the YMCA of the Cayman Islands. Note, this position is NOT based in the USA and requires YMCA experience.
This senior leadership role reports directly to the CEO and is the key driver in achieving a wide range of operational and organisational results. The Operations Executive is responsible for ensuring successful, mission-based YMCA objectives in the areas of staff/volunteer management, programme development and supervision, facility management, budget development and management, strong financial results, technology and support for excellent community relations and collaboration. This position ensures staff resources are well-aligned with strategic objectives by selecting, training, supervising and evaluating a full-time staff of at least 8 persons, as well as a part-time team of over 150 staff and volunteers. The Operations Executive ensures the highest standards of quality and safety for all community strengthening programmes while training and leading others to achieve and exceed targeted goals, meet deadlines, and advance organisational impact on the community.
- Works closely with CEO to implement the strategic plan objectives, ensuring the use of staff resources is in proper alignment with strategic plan.
- Selects, trains, develops, supervises and evaluates directors and department heads within areas of responsibility.
- Sets standards for all programmes and trains staff to be able to meet and exceed these standards.
- Leads the unit staff in responding to the problems and needs of YMCA programme members in a timely fashion.
- Accountable for the safety of all members, programme participants and staff throughout the YMCA.
- Supervises Business Manager, Programme Directors/Managers, facilities and support staff to assure sound operations.
- Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment
- Develops, prepares and manages the annual budget for areas of responsibility and initiates appropriate actions.
- Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled.
- Oversees organisation’s information services, ensuring effective and efficient use of technology
- Identifies resource needs, seeks additional project funding; develops foundation grants.
- Work closely with Business Manager to implement, monitor and update risk management plans specific to child abuse prevention, facility and equipment safety, aquatics, records security, and others as identified.
- Ensures the operational growth of the YMCA through programme expansion, member recruitment and retention, pricing strategies, new site development, collaborations, mergers and acquisitions.
- Implements and oversees a programme evaluation system to guarantee faithfulness to YMCA purpose, high quality and maintenance of YMCA standards.
- Identifies potential areas for cooperative programming to accomplish YMCA goals and works with staff groups to develop and implement programmes.
- Provides reports to committees, the Board of Directors and the CEO.
- Provides staff leadership to assigned Committees of the Board of Directors.
- Provides leadership and guidance to staff, community stakeholders and volunteers to support the success of fundraising efforts.
- Directs branch strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the branch
- Ensures compliance with the hiring, training, development, and supervision of staff and volunteers, while fostering a positive work environment
- A minimum of 5 years related YMCA experience required.
- A minimum of 10 years of successful experience in staff, programme, facility and financial management in the non-profit sector
- Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations to include staff supervision and development, quality programme development and implementation, facility and property management (preferably with recreational facilities), successful membership practices, volunteerism, and sound financial practices with budgetary responsibilities of $2 million or higher.
- Strong track record providing leadership or direct management in youth and adult sports, health and wellness programmes, day camp, teen leadership, and adventure-based counseling/team-building programmes.
- Requires strong background leading training and professional presentations.
- Solid track record of cultivating impactful relationships with community leaders, collaborative partners, donors and Board members.
- The preferred candidate will also have grant writing and fund development experience and be able to articulate the needs and priorities of the YMCA to potential donors and funding agencies.
- Excellent managerial, networking, conflict resolution and communication skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
