Under the direction of the COO, the Executive Director is responsible for administration of the Jim and Heather Gills YMCA branch including fiscal management, financial development and overall operation of the branch in accordance with policies, procedures and standards set by the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for the operation of branch, supporting the strategic direction of the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg.
  • Manages the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. Ensures operating budgets meet or exceed targets. 2019 budget: $4.1 million.
  • Maintains a diverse Branch Council that actively support the Y’s goals and strategic plans. Recruits, selects, and develops diverse volunteers for the branch board. Clarifies and reinforces the division of roles and responsibilities between corporate boards, management or advisory boards, staff, and general volunteers.
  • Leads annual support campaign and other fundraising activities to support branch.
  • Responsible for overall membership and program growth.
  • Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and association goals and strategies. Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and the leadership team.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of leadership staff.
  • Effectively supervise and develop branch employees and volunteers.
  • Represents and promotes the Y in the local community by developing strategic working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Develop strategies to build an exceptional culture and to motivate the Y’s team members and volunteers to achieve their goals.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in alignment with the YMCA core values.
  • Serves as a member of the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg’s operations team and supports the overall objectives of the association.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five years or more of management experience required.
  • Previous YMCA experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of operations, including effective staff supervision and development, successful membership practices, quality program development and implementation, volunteerism, financial development, and facility management.
  • Ability to effectively relate to diverse groups of people from all socioeconomic segments of the community.
  • Must have ability to develop strong, positive relationships with branch volunteers, business and civic leaders, and give dynamic leadership to the Council, Staff and Community.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Requires ability to exercise appropriate independent judgment, to assess facts and issues, and make non-routine decisions regarding day-to-day operational problems and issues.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00
