The Director of Outreach and Specialty Programs is a career track position with the Gateway Region YMCA, working in a close and historic partnership with Washington University in St. Louis.
The Director of Outreach and Specialty Programs at the Campus Y is responsible for facilitating the success of students and participants in student orientation small-group experiences, employment programs, and community outreach programs, and any others assigned by the Executive Director. This position also serves as the contact for administrative policy implementation, reporting and recording activities.
The Director will work with a small, close-knit team in an entrepreneurial environment that celebrates creative thinking and a student member-centered approach. This position reports to the Executive Director. This position works closely with the Washington University in St. Louis Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement, First Year Center, and the Division of Student Affairs. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining key community partnerships, including important partnerships within the Gateway Region YMCA.
- Programs for which the director is responsible include: LAUNCH, Campus – Member Service Associate (C-MSA), America Reads, Youth University, Institutional Service Hours, Youth of the Year, Book Fair Collections, and administration and data management of the Annual Campaign.
- Student Member Experience: the Program Director will achieve yearly member experience evaluation goals, and create proactive plans for improvement pursuant to the collected data.
- Program Quality: the Program Director will achieve yearly program evaluation targets and create proactive plans for improvement pursuant to the collected data.
- Program Enrollment: the Program Director will achieve yearly enrollment goals for LAUNCH participants, co-directors and program leaders, Youth University and C-MSA.
- Financial Management: the Program Director will achieve yearly budget goals related to both Campus Y budget, as well as urban core budget related to Youth University.
- Fundraising: the Program Director will achieve yearly fundraising goals related to Book Fair and any other program-centered fundraiser, as assigned by the Executive Director
- Coursework or degree or experience in higher education student affairs or nonprofit management preferred.
- Demonstration of strong prior commitment to learning beyond the classroom.
- Strong background in successful program design, creation, and delivery with college students, school-age children, children from underserved populations, and adult volunteers.
- Strong background in direct leadership of college students. Residential life, student affairs, collegiate community service, or student service experience preferred.
- Prior demonstration of inventive and entrepreneurial mindset.
- Strong understanding of marketing and market dynamics, marketing and/or sales experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions and apply new knowledge.
- Successful experience in a decision-making role.
- Budgeting experience preferred.
- Demonstrable excellence in clerical and administrative skills, including Google apps, MS Office suite and database utilization and management. Very high level of adaptation to new technology.
- Outstanding written communication skills.
