This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs and membership departments.
Under the direction of the Executive Director the Senior Program Director oversees the management of all aspects of two departments:
Our aquatics department and our swim lesson program and other classes as well as maintaining positive relationships with members; coordination with our swim team programs; implementation of new programs; supervision of staff include of scheduling and evaluating effectiveness; and maintaining the pool environment per YMCA and Department of Health standards.
Directs our membership department and all aspects of membership including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff. Develops, plans and implements new procedures and methods to achieve strategic goals.
Must provide staff supervision in both departments with a plan for recruitment, development and to insure retention of high quality staff. Respond to member and participant concerns in a timely manner addressing both customer service and safety concerns. Ensure that all policies of the organization are implemented including financial, human resources and program policies. Serve as a swim instructor and or lifeguard as needed.
- Directs, supervises and monitors all aspects of Aquatics and Membershipoperations and program activities to meet YMCA objectives and adhere to state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Develops, monitors and effectively forecasts program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Establishes new membership activities, increases membership and member retention, and promotes the Y within the community in accordance with Association/Branch strategic and operating plans.
- Maintains standards set forth in the YMCA of the USA Aquatic guidelines.
- Works to promote programs to the members and community through the Y Update, Facebook, news releases, in-house public relations, public service announcements and brochure distribution.
- Compiles membership statistics. Monitors and evaluates effectiveness of membership sales and retention efforts.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, directs and motivates personnel and volunteers.
- Develops strategies to motivate staff and volunteers to achieve goals.
- Reviews and evaluates staff and volunteer performance. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Monitors all aquatic facility needs, cleanliness, maintenance and OSHA standards.
- Monitors registrations, enrollment, and attendance records of all aquatic programs.
- Maintains inventory and recommends purchases, replacement and repair of equipment and supplies.
- Maintains current certifications and participates in relevant training or certification courses on a regular basis.
- Develops and nurtures collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Engages volunteers and assists with volunteer committee meetings.
- Actively participates in and supports the goals of the annual Y Strong Annual Campaign through building relationships, engaging volunteers and carrying out other assigned fund raising duties.
- Participates and contributes towards the goals of program task teams, and other assigned committees of the Association.
- Performs membership and member service desk duties as needed. May conduct Member Service trainings.
- Conducts and maintains accurate membership records including: Membership and Bank Draft Records, office supplies for MSD, member records, etc.
- Creates and schedules Membership Service Staff including Front Desk staff and Managers on Duty.
- Maintains working knowledge of other branch departments and provides responsive service to requests from members, program members and community partners of those other departments as well.
- 22.Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. Ensures marketing materials comply with Y branding guidelines and uses Y Voice to effectively tell the YMCA story.
- 23.Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and assists with special events.
- 24.Knows and administers the appropriate EAP (emergency action plan) for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc.Completes incident and accident reports as required.
- 25.Monitors and assists in the maintenance of a clean and sanitary membership service environment and meets all state and local licensing requirements.
- 26.Inspects equipment within Membership area for safety hazards, damage or wear.
- 27.Communicates to CEO any suggestions concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.
- 28.Provides excellent member service and follows membership retention practices of the branch, including responding to inquiries/concerns in timely manner, being courteous and giving sincere attention to members, providing positive and regular feedback to program participants, knowing individual’s names and using their names when speaking to members.
- 29.Increases member and program participant awareness of healthy lifestyle factors.
- 30.Upholds guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook of the Association.
- 31.Attends designated meetings and trainings. Holds effective staff meetings.
- 32.Carries out other duties as assigned by the CEO.
- Experience working with individuals, families and communities of diverse backgrounds and abilities
- 2+ years previous direct supervisory experience
- Current First Aid, CPRPRO, AED and O2 certifications, trainer instructor preferred
- Current YMCA Lifeguard or RLSS, CRC, ARC Lifeguard, trainer instructor preferred
- Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities
- Strong computer skills and experience with standard business software
- Strong professional written and verbal communication skills
Required Certifications
- Lifeguarding certification (ARC); American Red Cross First Aid & CPR for Professional Rescuer; AED, O2 and state-mandated concussion training
- Preffered Certified Pool Operator Cert. POOL YAM, LGI (ARC)
