The Association Aquatic Director position reflects the continued growth and success in Aquatics. The goal is to maintain safe and high quality programs and services, integrate with the other Y departments through programs and special events and grow community outreach. Areas of Responsibility:
- Manage the Springfield YMCA Aquatic Department, providing direct supervision to the aquatic management team to develop a strong mission-based culture within the Y staff, including serving as a part of the association leadership team.
- Work closely with Branch Directors, the Accounting Department and the aquatic leadership staff to budget and manage aquatic finances.
- Hire, train and evaluate leaders in the Aquatic Department through on-deck supervision, one-on-one meetings and employee and member feedback.
- Balance administrative responsibilities with obligations to regular guarding and swim instruction shifts as needed.
- Foster harmonious relationships among staff members.
- Evaluate current programming through statistics and participant feedback; develop and implement new programming consistent with the Y mission.
- Hold regularly scheduled agenda-based meetings with the managers in the Aquatic Department to collaborate and provide guidance in developing an environment and programs consistent with the Y mission that serve the needs of the Springfield community
- Review time cards each pay period and provide feedback to aquatic supervisors as it relates to employee schedule patterns.
- Work with facility pool operators to maintain appropriate water chemistry, records and inventory at each facility as required by the Department of Public Health and the Springfield Fire Department.
- Provide up-to-date pool schedules for each facility to membership directors and maintain association app to reflect up-to-the minute natatorium schedules.
- Work in collaboration with the Marketing Department, abiding by brand standards, to have active and current promotional and social media content reflecting programs, services and special events.
- Maintain a culture of safety in all aspects of department and organizational operations through policies, procedures, systems and training.
- Develop long-term goals for the Aquatic Department and provide steps and resources to reach those goals.
- Attend association and professional development meetings as required.
- Participate in annual association fundraising and community events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience:
- Experience managing a budget of $300,000 or more; experience supervising multiple full-time and part-time staff.
- Experience managing an aquatic department, including: aquatic safety training, implementing swim lessons and program development.
- YMCA Certifications (or equivalent): Lifeguard (required) with Lifeguard Instructor, Pool Operator on Location, & Aquatic Management preferred.
- Safety Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Model Aquatic Health Code as outlined by the CDC and its application to a Y aquatic environment.
- Must demonstrate ability to meet essential functions in accordance with Springfield YMCA standards.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to work 40-plus hours per week with irregular work hours.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- Position requires bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
- Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
Required Certifications
- YMCA Certifications (or equivalent): Lifeguard (required) with Lifeguard Instructor, Pool Operator on Location, & Aquatic Management preferred.

Compensation/Benefits:
- Family Use of Y Facility, Health, Dental, Life and Retirement (8%)
- Salary : $40,000.00 - $47,000.00
