The YMCA of the Suncoast is searching for a dynamic, mission-driven leader to serve as the Wellness Director for the Hernando County Branch.

The Hernando County facility is a 27,000 sq. ft facility on 20 acres of property with approximately 7,000 members. This position, which serves as one of the top administrative branch staff is responsible for day-to-day general administration of the Wellness Department for a facility that includes an 8,000 sq. foot wellness center, 8-lane Junior Olympic-size heated pool, 2 lighted softball fields, outdoor basketball court and sand volleyball court. Responsibilities of this position will include staff supervision, budgeting, expense control and income generation for a $400,000 department budget, program development and quality control, community relations, collaborations, long-range planning and equipment and facility maintenance. The Wellness Director also provides direction and leadership for the achievement of Association goals in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards established by the Board.

Areas of Responsibility: 

High Quality Programs, Services and Facilities

  • Direct and administer total operation of the Wellness Department including the interpretation and execution of established policies, the development of procedures and methods, staffing, evaluation of the effectiveness of the programs and operation
  • Plan and conduct a wide variety of wellness programs and activities that maximize the facilities available, support the Cause and enhance membership
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct.  Ensure the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment by keeping supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment.
  • Promote and monitor membership and/or program growth, taking a leadership role in membership cultivation and retention

Staff and Volunteer Management

  • Recruit, hire, supervise and develop department staff and volunteers through use of Leadership Competency Model resources that create a culture of cause-driven leaders
  • Lead and/or participate in a branch committee(s)
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings to keep staff and volunteers well informed.
  • Support branch Y Community Champions efforts

Finance

  • Prepare annual department(s) budget for approval by the Executive Director.
  • Recommend adjustments and administer the budget, exercising necessary expense controls and revenue production

Community Development

  • Represent and promote the YMCA in the local community and develop positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Promote and communicate the objectives and programs of the YMCA through public communication media
  • Actively participate in community organizations  

Financial Development

  • Incorporate storytelling in an effort to advance our mission and cause
  • Participate in Annual Campaign efforts
  • Identify and recruit Annual Campaign volunteers
  • Lead and/or participate in branch special events for fund raising or mission advancement

Operating Values

  • Serve as a member of branch management and support the branch and association objectives of the YMCA
  • Teach, role model and promote SMART behavior

Strategic

  • Support the GPS initiatives by participating on a Commitment Team
  • Advance our work in Youth Development, Healthy Living, Volunteerism and Philanthropy
  • Incorporate Living Our Cause into work products and behavior
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor's Degree in field required. Master's Degree in related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have a minimum 3 years experience in related field and 2 years experience in management or supervision.
  • Must meet YMCA of the Suncoast driving criteria.
  • Y-USA Team leader, Multi Team Leader or Organizational Leader Certification preferred.
  • Must maintain current CPR/First Aid certification and National Certification as a Personal Trainer.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time as well as squat, stoop or bend into awkward positions. Must be able to carry and spot up to 50 pounds. Visual and auditory observation of staff, volunteers and members required.
