The Alliance Consultant is tasked with building the capacity of YMCA’s in Washington, Hawaii and Oregon through the use of performance consulting methodology to assess the member Y’s highest organizational needs and the delivery of strategic services. The individual will focus on board governance, strategic planning and collaborations/networks.  They may also be called upon to assist in CEO on-boarding and CEO searches.  The position will also support strategic alliance functions for the three states working in cooperation with alliance staff, alliance volunteer leadership and alliance committees as appropriate.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assess each YMCA’s highest organizational needs to create and deliver appropriate consulting services and impact focused projects
  • Facilitate and support projects in:
  • Strategic Planning
  • Board governance, board capacity building and CVO on-boarding
  • Financial development
  • Shared Services/Management Agreements/Mergers
  • Networking & Relationship building
  • CEO search & on-boarding
  • Capital Development Planning (Readiness, Planning/Pre-funding)
  • Early intervention of struggling Y’s (if requested by local Y’s)
  • Staff culture and team-building
  • Other areas as defined as needs by local Y’s and/or alliances
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with Y leaders to develop high levels of access, credibility and trust
  • Support Y’s individually and collectively in increasing and measuring impact and community benefit
  • Encourage a collaborative culture through state alliances, regional networks and Y to Y community collaborations
  • Support alliance strategic plans, projects and initiatives in partnership with Alliance Executive Directors and/or alliance volunteer leadership
  • Work in close collaboration with Alliance Executive Directors or any staff positions to ensure clear lines of communication, responsibility and accountability
  • Participate in on-boarding, training and connection opportunities with other Alliance Consultants and in regional or nation-wide task forces sponsored by alliances and/or YUSA
  • Maintain a strong connection and access to key experts, specialists and resources at YUSA
  • Maintain a strong connection and access to the movement’s Partner YMCA’s
  • Demonstrate the highest levels of leadership competencies and maintain a broad knowledge base
  • Support local and alliance leadership conferences and events as needed
Educational Background: 
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Organizational Leadership Certification required
  • 10-plus years’ experience leading and/or consulting in non-profit environments
  • Skilled and experienced in Performance Consulting Methodology or similar consulting methodologies
  • Extensive background in delivering strategic processes in core essential functions
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships across a broad range of stakeholders
  • Proven project management skills and the ability to manage complex priorities
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Analytical & problem solving skills
  • Demonstration of strong required leadership competencies
  • Must be able to travel 50- 60% of the time mostly within WA, HI, and OR
  • Valid driver’s license required
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $125,000.00 - $140,000.00
