Areas of Responsibility: 

The Y Board seeks an experienced leader who has the requisite background and skills to achieve excellence in the following areas:

  • Create a Vision and Strategic Plan That Drives Innovation and Bold Impact: Lead the organization in an effort that brings together all YMCA stakeholders to create a strategic plan that aligns with the mission and vision of the organization. By partnering with boards, staff, community leaders and Y members, the CEO will create a vision and a plan that drives collective and bold impact to address critical social issues in communities served.
  • Continue Strengthening Operating Performance Focusing on Fiscal Health: Assess current operations and create plans that will continue to grow and retain membership as well as expand program delivery. Proactively identify trends as well as create a data driven culture to make effective decisions. Provide a balanced focus on strong fiscal performance while expanding services to the community. Work with the board and staff to develop long-term and annual tactical plans and metrics for achieving key goals and objectives.
  • Lead an Effective Staff Team: Establish yourself as a leader to attract, motivate, engage, and retain staff in a positive and productive manner by implementing an expectation for excellence. Demonstrate an engaging, open, positive and inclusive leadership style with a proven history of displaying integrity, a strong work ethic and courage. Be innovative and maintain an open mind for developing new ways of improving services and expanding impact.
  • Advocate the Vision of the YMCA: Be an advocate for the mission, goals, and values of the Y. Serve as a spokesperson with a contagious effect on others.  Create strategic and successful relationships with influential local and state leaders, potential donors, members and organizations in our communities, with an eye toward leveraging those relationships that will be mutually beneficial to those involved.
  • Lead Fundraising Efforts: Lead fundraising efforts by working with the board and staff to establish a plan to raise significant contributions, including endowment, for service growth, affordable programs and membership and capital development projects. Must be able to position the Y as a charity of choice by instilling confidence, credibility, and trust in the Y with community leaders, donors and members.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college (Note: this is a non-negotiable requirement per YMCA national membership standards).
  • Minimum five years’ prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or organization of comparable complexity. 
  • Successful fiscal management track record with budgets of $5M or more annually.  
  • Experience leading successful fundraising efforts including annual and capital campaigns.
  • Ability to develop and strengthen community relationships and effective collaborations.

Preferred Candidate Criteria:

  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (Note: Candidates not already in possession of this certification have up to three years to obtain this through Y-USA).
  • Effective skills in board governance and serving as an integral partner with volunteers. 
  • Experience leading and implementing a strategic plan.
  • Working knowledge of property and facilities utilization, maintenance, and development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary Range: $175,000-$195,000 (Salary is commensurate with experience. Housing option is available, and if elected, salary will be adjusted accordingly).  

Benefits: Health care plan (i.e. medical, dental), and vacation, as well as other benefits per the personnel policy. Retirement contribution - YMCA pays 12% per eligibility requirements (www.yretirement.org). Additional details to be provided to finalists.
