Summer Camp naturalists are involved in all aspects of the summer camp program.  Primary responsibilities include preparing and teaching week-long nature programs for small groups of children entering grades 1-8.  Activities may include simple science investigations, nature hikes, environmental games and crafts developed by naturalists under the direction of the Day Camp Director.  Each summer camp week will have a different theme that will guide curriculum development.

Summer camp naturalists will be required to participate in a training week prior to the start of camp that will involve learning local ecology, hiking trails with Audubon naturalists and planning the 8 week camp curriculum.

This position will provide naturalists with valuable teaching experience, naturalist training, an understanding of how a non-profit organization works as well as many rewarding networking opportunities.

Educational Background: 
Completion of two years of college level coursework in environmental science, biology, education or a related field is preferred. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Some teaching experience and/or curriculum development experience is necessary. 
  • Most important assets are an interest in natural history, a desire to learn, enthusiasm, flexibility and the ability to work well with others. 
  • Candidates must have the ability to hike short distances over moderate terrain, lift 20 lbs, and work outside in varying conditions required.
