Develops, organizes, and implements high-quality YMCA aquatics and youth programs. Ensures the aquatics experience is safe, fun, and enjoyable for members and program participants.
- 65% supervision and management ofAquatics and Youth ProgramDepartment–including physical facilities with trained and ready staff, swim lesson growth, youth sports and monthly programs
- 20% management and development in areas of certifications, audits, in-services, chemical logs, and staff development to include recruiting, hiring, and training
- 5% leadership to Annual Giving campaign and other special projects
- 10% association andfamily center meetings and/orleaderon duty assignment
Priorities for the South Boston/Halifax County YMCA:
- Supervision of all aspects of aquatics safety and youth programing
- Accountable for total budget expectations and outcomes of Aquatics and Youth Programing Department
- Responsible to provide leadership in aquatics maintenance and pool care
- Organizes and implements youth programs
The Aquatics and Youth Program Director must understand and be willing to learn the necessary skills required for the successful completion of duties including:
Budget and Financial Performance
- Responsible for developing and managing aquatics and youth program budgets to meet fiscal objectives
- Creates and schedules swim classes, rentals, water exercise and youth sports staff/volunteers
Program Development and Membership Engagement
- Directs and supervises all aquatic program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new youth program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of indoor pool. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance in adherence with state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations
- Organizes and implements youth programs (sports, summer camp, teen leaders, etc.)
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
- in programs
Team Performance Toward Organizational Goals
- Recruits, hires, trains, schedules and supervises all aquatic personnel and volunteers
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals
- Ensures all aquatics staff is trained in emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
- Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete
Fundraising
- Actively participates in YMCA fundraising activities and special events
- Participates in a successful annual support campaign
Professional Development
- Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, oxygen administration, swim instructor, First Aid and CPR trainings
- Perform all functions as those they supervise and meets qualifications and certifications of YMCA Lifeguard Instructor and YMCA Swim Instructor
- Assists and participate with association and center meetings as necessary
- Minimum age of 21
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification
- Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications (instructor level preferred)
- Current Swim Instructor Certification preferred or achieved within 60 days of hire
- Preferred candidates will have a minimum experience of 3 years in the aquatics field
- Trainer level in ASHI, CPR, AED, O2 within 90 days
- YSwim lesson instructor in 90 days, trainer within in 1 year
- AFO in 6 months
- Lifeguard instructor within 90 days
- Lifeguard Trainer within 1 year preferred
- Ability to maintain all required certifications and the necessary level of physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Supervisory experience required, 3 years preferred
- Superior oral and written communication skills
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
- Ability to pass lifeguard water test
- Must be able to remain alert
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods
- Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals
- Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and
- loud situations
- Ability to work inside and outside (environments include humidity, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions)
- Must be able to lift and pull 75 pounds
- During peak program seasons, may be expected to work night and weekend hours to meet program needs
Salary: $35,357.00 - $38,000.00
