To provide strategic leadership in the Healthy Living Department to advance the YMCA’s Mission by building strong community relationships and collaborations, and lead the YMCA and community to integrate healthy living strategies in programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Builds-relationships in both Indiana and Michigan markets with healthcare providers, insurance companies, community health educators, local employers, and the YMCA team to market YMCA Healthy Living programs consisting of (but not limited to):  YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA & The Y Corporate Wellness Program.
    • Market/Sell the programs
    • Establish solid referral networks
    • Seek financial support
  • Oversees both the Chronic Disease and Wellness programs and participates in the YMCA community outreach and sales efforts using strategies driven by the association with donors, media, community leaders and members.
  • Works with YMCA program team to integrate health strategies in programs for greater health and community impact.
  • Ensures department’s financial benchmarks of the annual budget; effectively manages day to day operations, driving revenue, and monitoring departmental expenses.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Works in both Indiana and Michigan markets to solicit funds to support scholarships and signature programs, execute funded programs, and report results back to donors and interested parties. 
  • Implements strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.  Creates a member-focused culture and models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.

  • Accommodate flexible work schedule which may require early mornings, evenings, & weekends to meet the demands of the job responsibilities.
  • Able to communicate to others how the YMCA supports kids, adults and families in the community. 
Educational Background: 
 Bachelor’s Degree in Health/Wellness or 5+ years of equivalent work experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Community Health Education Specialist (C.H.E.S.) certification preferred.
  • Nationally certified Group Fitness or Personal Training certification preferred.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certifications preferred. Must be completed within 90 days of hire.
  • Relates effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
  • Ability to work both in our Michigan and Indiana Y locations.
  •  Five or more years of supervisory experience in the wellness field, including progressive staff leadership and budget responsibility.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
  • Other comparable community-based program management experience, such as demonstrated successful community collaborations and advocating for an agency in the community.
