The Operations Director will be responsible for the management of facility operations including but not limited to: Maintenance, Housekeeping, Food Service, Camp Store, Event Management, reporting, and robust ancillary program offerings. The Operations Director will also work closely with other camp areas in hiring, training, management, and staff scheduling.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Plans and coordinates a variety of facility set ups for all camp programs, including, but not limited to summer camp, outdoor education and weekend and conference groups.
  • May assist Executive Director with interviews, hires, training, evaluations, and discipline.
  • Attends events and supervises event staff by serving on rotation as manager on duty.
  • Conducts inspections of the camp buildings and grounds to ensure all building components are in good working order and grounds are safe, clean and secure.
  • Strengthen staff relationships and motivate and engage all staff (Seasonal and Year-Round)
  • This is a very “hands on” position, therefore, the successful candidate must be willing, possess the knowledge, and be physically able to assist in the areas of Maintenance, Housekeeping, Food Service and Guest Relations as needed.
  • Assists Executive Director in developing and administering the operations budget; assists with monitoring and approving budget expenditures.
  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of contracted staff.
  • Maintains equipment and supply inventory.
  • Develops, communicates, and monitors policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Reinforce the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibilities with the staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management, Business Administration or related field is required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience in an administrative or supervisory role in a similar environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and strengthen relationships with staff and have the ability to motivate and engage a seasonal workforce.
  • Knowledge or practical experience in: general maintenance, housekeeping, food service, guest services and staff management & motivation.
  • Mental and physical ability to deal with high-stress situations and work well under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, positive attitude, initiative, flexibility, and creativity.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to critical incidents and the physical abilities to act swiftly in an emergency situation (fire, evacuation, illness or injury).
  • Personal values consistent with the YMCA.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of multiple positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years in experience or service.
  • Be a team player and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays and long hours)
  • Prior responsibility in daily P&L management and budget oversight.
  • Specific program experience and prior camp experience.
  • Experience leading, teaching and supervising others.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $38,000.00 - $51,000.00
