To provide strategic leadership in accounting to further the mission of the YMCA by providing dependable and accurate accountancy services on both our Indiana and Michigan locations.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintains an accounting system to accomplish the proper recording and reporting of all operations, transactions, assets and liabilities of the YMCA for all funds.
- Serves as resource person to management and program personnel in all matters relating to accounting and accounts payable.
- Prepares and sends out monthly reports to management staff in order to provide them with a better understanding of their financials. On an individualized basis, provides key knowledge to help management staff better utilize said financials.
- Assists in the annual budget process by providing staff with relevant and informative data to help them prepare his/her budget for the following year.
- Prepares reconciliations of all YMCA accounts on a monthly and annual basis. Prepares month-end and year-end closings and the preparation of statements and reports.
- Posts month-end journal entries including accruals for various accounts.
- Maintains accounts payable and answers vendor inquiries.
- Assists in preparation of financial statements required by management, the Board, and outside agencies.
- Maintains records, and prepare various internal and external reports, including reports for various federal and state agencies including monthly preparation of the sales and use tax.
- Facilitates key functions such as the annual independent audit and preparation of the 990 and other important tax forms.
- Preparation of special internal audits, accounting studies, analyses and cost studies as required.
- Presents financial information to the finance committee.
- Leading our staff accountants in our Indiana and Michigan locations through best practices, processes and high-level leadership.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
Skills/Experience:
- Three or more years of experience as an accountant.
- Strong problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to develop and use spreadsheets and standard business software systems.
- Proficiency in US GAAP and not-for-profit accounting and financial management.
- Ability to work both in our Michigan and Indiana Y locations.
