Do you have the desire and talent to progress in the Aquatics field and join a dynamic management team at the Y? Somerset County YMCA currently seeks an Associate Aquatics Director to support the day-to-day operations of aquatics programing in our Somerville and Bridgewater, NJ branch locations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, you would help to improve and develop quality programs.
  • You would be responsible for the scheduling and supervision of Lifeguards and Deck Supervisors and assist the Aquatics Director in overseeing Swim Instructors to include training/certification, skills assessment, hiring, supervision, and scheduling, etc.
  • You would also ensure a safe environment by keeping pools and decks clean at all times, conduct swim evaluations, serve as Lifeguard and Swim Instructor when needed.
  • Evening and weekend hours are required for this type of environment.
Educational Background: 
BS in Recreation, Physical Education, Heath Science, or a related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • To be successful in this position a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Lifeguard and/or Swim/Aquacise Instructor is required and at least one (1) year as a Deck Supervisor
  • As you would be overseeing a group of staff, some supervisory experience is strongly preferred, along with a BS in Recreation, Physical Education, Heath Science, or a related field
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook is key as well
  • Strong administrative, communication and human relations skills are required
  • Required certifications include:
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor/CPR/AED/First Aid
  • It is a plus if you have knowledge of the NJ Bathing Code and/or a Pool Operator Certification
