This position oversees the general operation of our Downtown YMCA facility during peak youth attendance hours, Monday-Friday, 1pm to 9pm. There are major opportunities to grow quality programs as our YMCA continues to strengthen our focus on youth development.
The Downtown Sioux Falls YMCA Youth Center serves thousands of children, grades K-12, in a variety of afterschool and evening programs. The facility includes a gymnastics center, youth strength training area, youth activity room, basketball courts, racquetball courts and multi-purpose space. Programs include afterschool, childcare, basketball, volleyball, racquetball, dance, cheer, martial arts, birthday parties, Youth & Government, Teen Leaders and more! Please note: the position does not necessarily require expertise in one or more of the above mentioned activities because this is a general supervisory role.
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all youth inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- May assist with Program Committee meetings.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- One to two years related experience preferred working directly with youth and/or teens (ages 5-17).
- The minimum age requirement is 21 (to meet licensing and transportation requirements)
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred (or obtain the license within first 90 days of employment).
- Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Salary: $30,000.00 - $40,000.00
