Overview:

We are seeking an individual to fill the position of Executive Director to work in Siem Reap, Cambodia. We are looking for a self-motivated individual, adaptable to living in a developing country, with an eagerness to apply their background to serve others. An ideal candidate would have experience working in non-profit and development, and minimum 2 years leadership experience.

 

Position Overview:

The Executive Director will be responsible for managing all EGBOK related projects in Cambodia including the training café Spoons.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Site Coordination

  • Maintain relationships with our partners, including community-based organizations, hospitality schools, and hospitality businesses
  • Select students for EGBOK’s hospitality programs in accordance with the organization’s mission and vision
  • Identify new community partners and evaluate current partnerships, as needed, in accordance with the organization’s mission and vision

 

Planning, Monitoring and Evaluating, and Reporting

  • Maintain the organization’s year-long projects calendar, in accordance with the strategic plan
  • Coordinate with team members and partners to deliver EGBOK hospitality training programs
  • Evaluate the progress of key objectives of EGBOK’s three-year strategic plan and coordinate with team members to improve program operations
  • Coordinate among team members to compile information for weekly, monthly, and annual reports, as required by donors and government entities as well as for internal monitoring and evaluation
  • Update the strategic plan, as needed

 

Student Development

  • Work with Social Work team to address student issues, including individual student problems and problems among groups of students
  • Work with Social Work and Education teams to review and identify additional student training needs, including hospitality-related skills and general life skills
  • Enforce EGBOK’s disciplinary policies
  • Advise students as needed throughout their participation in EGBOK, including on the appropriateness of different training programs and decision-making during the job-placement process

 

Personnel, Financial, and Administrative Management

  • Manage workloads for staff and volunteers and ensure projects are in line with EGBOK’s strategic plan
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations with staff members
  • Provide ongoing professional support and development for team members, including staff and volunteers
  • Oversee finances including managing petty cash flow, reviewing finances, maintaining accounts in Quickbooks and budgeting
  • Hire new team members, as needed, including drafting job descriptions, interviewing candidates, and drafting contracts
  • Assist writing policies for HR and finance as needed
  • Updating the Board of Directors regularly on the status of the project
  • Conduct administrative tasks, as needed

 

Fundraising & Marketing

  • Work with the Development Manager to maintain current donor relations while cultivating new ones, hosting visitors and fundraising events and overseeing grant applications and reporting
  • Oversee marketing initiatives for EGBOK and Spoons including social media, quarterly newsletter, website and community events
  • Oversee merchandise sales and production in Cambodia

 

Training Café Spoons

  • Oversee the operation of EGBOK’s training café and multi-purpose space Spoons in collaboration with the Restaurant Manager & Chef
  • In collaboration with the Spoons team develop and implement standard operating procedures for both service staff and kitchen staff
  • Monitor budgeting, purchasing, and inventory to ensure financial feasibility

 

Skills/Experience: 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • At least 3 years experience in NGOs or non-profits, international development, or related field and 2 years of leadership experience
  • University degree; masters preferred
  • Experience working in a developing country; experience in Cambodia or South East Asia is an asset
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of Khmer is an asset
  • Flexibility and willingness to take initiative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Competent with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with QuickBooks, PayPal, and Salesforce are helpful
  • Ability to thrive in a multi-cultural work environment
  • Experience working directly with young adults strongly and/or hospitality background is an asset
  • Strong networker both over e-mail and in person with the ability to personally connect with visitors & donors and community partners

Compensation/Benefits: 

This is a paid position in Cambodia on a local salary package. Salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. EGBOK will assist with the process of obtaining a visa and work permit to live in Cambodia working for EGBOK. Further benefits to be discussed during an interview.

We work with our community partners that include local organizations, community centers, and rural villages to provide students with an introductory course that provides students with an overview of the hospitality industry and associated careers. Our course is structured to build confidence and familiarize students with the hospitality industry employment opportunities. We use this time to assess a student’s commitment and motivation for working as a hospitality professional. It is also an opportunity for the students to discern whether or not the hospitality field will be a good fit. This phase ensures that we are helping those that truly want to be helped.

2. Vocational Training, Life Skills & Social Support

For the students who want to embark on a hospitality career upon completion of the Introductory Course, we provide the resources and support needed to succeed. Our Training & Internship Program (TIP) is a year-long program in hospitality at our school. Students gain the theoretical and practical training via in-class learning and internships with our hospitality partners. Students live in our EGBOK Living Centers where our supplementary courses and array of social services help them build self-esteem, leadership and other positive life skills. We work closely with the students to secure and prepare them for their first job in the hospitality industry, while training them in skills needed to replicate the job search process independently.

3. Job Placement & Professional Development

Once EGBOK students graduate and are employed by some of the top hotels and restaurants in Cambodia, we remain in close contact. As they begin their careers, we continue to provide social support through mentoring and supplementary courses. EGBOK’s school offers a safe place for alumni to return. They are always welcome to come to EGBOK to use our computers, books, volleyball court, and more. Our Social Work team is available for alumni. Their support continues long after graduation, and students are encouraged to come to EGBOK with both career and personal problems. We also offer Professional Development Courses post-graduation. This provides alumni with an opportunity to continue their education about hospitality and gives them further tools to enhance their careers.
